Held two races, both low key, raising money for equipment, but it looks promising for next year.

  3. Get through the winter, hope its not to harsh. Get the racing seats in the coupe re-coverd, up grade the ignition system, some re wiring, re seal tranny pan, and water pump, some front suspension work. But I will be driving her till the cold hits.

My son has informed me that "we" need top pull his 57 Dodge wagon (not really HAMB friendly) apart for painting. He wants to do a color change, so everything has to come out. I suppose he will expect me to "help" put it back together. The problem is, he has a day job, and the work will take place in my shop. He tends to have other stuff he needs to do, about 1/2 way through his projects.

I have a 47 Dodge pickup sheet metal that has been sitting here for a couple of years. I would like to get going on it.
The next problem is, everything has to be done in my shop where I make my living, its difficult to move stuff in and out of the garage if it snows. Gene

image.jpeg This year was pretty much limited to the spring Auto Fair and a trek in the roadster to Ontario for the Jalopy Jam Up. Still have the Daytona Swap coming up. Over the winter, loosely speaking here in Florida, me or the elves have got to hit the projects in the garage and make some progress.
Next spring, other than the required Auto Fair trip will be another trek north to NY to bring my big brother's T-V8 project home to complete in his memory. We lost him this year to cancer. Not sure what the summer and fall will hold but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Checked the GNRS and Pebble Beach off my bucket list this year, would be happy to do them both again in 2017 . I'll know tomorrow if I have a two car garage cleanout to take to Hershey. Just about nothing got done on my two projects, but that is ok with me, the world really doesn't need two more finished projects. I think I'd like to see Texas, and Bonneville is still on the bucket list. Bob

Wow, you guys are not so busy. Two weeks ago was the hot rod hill climb in Colorado. Took my 29 highboy there. For October, in a few weeks will be the Race of Gentlemen in Pismo. Will run my Deuce roadster there. Then the Western National Meet Of the Early Ford V8 Club in Bakersfield followed by the Hot Rod Reunion at Famoso. Have not started to plan Nov. yet.....

The winter is my busy time at work. We usually do 12hrs days (or nites). Somehow I manage to get most of my car building done in the winter too. I get the wood burner going and don't come out until I need food

  11. Fuzzy, here in the Sunny South winter is generally wet but the white stuff is rare so most of us in South Carolina don't have to park out rides and can actually drive during the winter months. HRP

  12. In northeast pa we put the cars away and then work on the projects all winter.
I'll still take one out on a nice dry day. But they really just sit until about March.
I'll be chiseling away at the 55 Buick all winter. I also need to paint the roof and trunk on my 57 chev.
My dad said In the 70s the 57 was more of a daily driver. But he still didn't want to drive it in the salt. so he would daily his 55 Buick and the 57 was on the street in front of the house all year.
The plow trucks would bury the car and he didn't see it till spring. It doesn't snow that much anymore thankfully.

HA! Man, since I got back from vacation, I have spent every weekend at an event, a swap, or picking up parts. Last Saturday I went to an event, and as I was heading out, told my wife I had to move my brake next weekend. She made it clear that if I was going to go to Monroe on the 8th, I had better spend at least one weekend out of six at home, or I might not have a home to come back to. She may have a point...:D
After Monroe though, it pretty much shuts down in the PNW.

Good to hear, keep me updated on that. If you want me to do anything to spread the word come spring, let me know.

  15. I only had one real bad experience with my therapist this year. Most of it hurt but not unbearable pain. I cheated though. I got muscle relaxers for my legs. I would take one before therapy and then they didn't have to fight the muscles as bad.

  16. 2016 was a great year for me. Finished up my 3 window build in Feb. (if they are ever finished). checked off many events with it and logged over 12K miles so far this summer. LARS, Bonneville speed week, Hill Climb, Greaserama, Deuce Doings Des Moines. Lead Sled Nats. and some others. All in all a great summer and I still have the TROG in Cal. to look forward to next month.
2017 Well we just have to wait and see if I have any gas $$$ left after this year.

Last winter I got a crate 350 installed in Clarence. Also rebuilt the T-350, the 8" rear, all new parts in the rear brakes, 4 new ball joints in the Aspen/Volare front, installed a new aluminum radiator, replaced the rear springs (several leaves removed) with refurbished springs (complete sets), and changed out the ET mags for white steelies.

This winter, not necessarily in this order:

    1. Install new front upper and lower fiberglass fenders for Clarence that I picked up from Be Bops Glasworks,

    2. Replace the rusted steel floor (panel trucks have steel at the seats and plywood behind the seats),

    3. Lower the rear by reversing the rear spring hangers (the complete spring sets raised the rear quite a bit),

    4. Have the Thunderbird seats I bought about 15 years ago reupholstered with Sherry's choice of color/fabric and get them installed,

    5. Replace the rear fenderwells/wheelwells (odd shaped) with '47 Merc fenderwells/wheelwells (round openings), concentric with the rear wheels,

    6. Rewire entire truck,

    7. Install Vintage Air heat/air,

    8. Do necessary bodywork and paint with Sherry's choice of color,

    9. Install new to me (excellent condition) running boards,

    10. Chop the new F-1 doors (coming from Dino64) and replace the front doors with them (Bonneville salt has literally destroyed the door bottoms),

    11. and who knows what else.

Would like to rearrange my shop and install the bathroom that got stubbed in 15 years ago.

Other than these things I'll just lay around the house all winter.

Sure is nice to be retired and not have to be anywhere that I don't want to be.

Up here on the coast of B.C., snow is rare, but it can be wet in the winter. Rain will return here soon, usually around the middle of Oct. We can still use the car, on the dry days though.
My plan is to first of all change out the stock seat in my A. Has a new seat spring and cover but has no strength to support neither the wife or i. and we aren't big people. My bad back needs more support.
I have been waiting till fall as not to miss the good driving weather, but soon the seat and riser will go and i have new seats to put in. The seats are black vinyl and don't look too modern, but it will still be covered by a Mexican blanket.
And then go over the car and work on some minor improvements.

The older I get it seems the hotter it is in Summer. The first cool spell is on us in Houston and I feel the urge to get to the shop and get the Spirit together and order a roll cage kit. The '40 Chevy still needs the rear sheet metal replaced and my motorcycle has a few months worth of spider webs that need removing. I plan on driving to Fort Worth this weekend for the Fall Good guys get together then see what happens. My problem is that almost all of my age appropriate play mates have died and the younger guys are into Tuner cars.

  20. I'd set a timeframe and deadline. If it doesn't happen within the set timeframe, (and within a reasonable grace period since he's your son), it gets booted out the door into the snow.
He's your son, but his distractions shouldn't impact your ability to make a living or continue your projects. Just my 2 cents as a son :)

Got one or two more events here in Illinois, then it's off the road for the winter.

Changes I'd like to get done are new seats (got them in storage, so it's getting them to fit, figuring out how to mount them, and probably moving the E brake handle), maybe starting to work on upholstery (because tweed). Need wheels, tyres, and an alignment, and the front springs need looking at. Trans pan needs a new gasket. Windshield leaks and needs to be sealed up.

Next year, Power Tour is a goal. Wanted to do it this year, but I changed jobs and lost my five weeks of vacation time. Only getting two weeks a year now, which limits my long trip goals.

We wait all summer for our winter to arrive. We are happy to see the temp drop below 100 for a few months and enjoy our "winter."

The banger in my Zipper was built in 1990, so it's time to to go through it this winter. Did the spindles, drums and replaced the friction shocks with Armstrongs (stole the idea from Limey Kid) over the last couple of weeks.

  29. I got a whole lot done this year, the '59 Ford is running well and I have 1000 miles on it, still chasing issues here and there.
I'm not big into entering car shows, I'll go and spectate, just can't squander an entire nice day at one. I have 3 local cruises that are quite nice and I'm shooting for all 3 this weekend. I plan on driving the car all winter as long as the roads are dry, no snow or slush.
