Ok it's finally official. We have a confirmed date for traditional hot rod racing. Let's make this a happen with a large turn out. No more complaining of no hot rod racing in #az Please spread the word.
Poorly worded flyer...ALL STREET CARS '50 & OLDER Just exactly what does that mean? Only pre fifty or all 50-59 cars? Race cars? Nothing for '60s cars?
ALL STREET CARS '50 & OLDER 1950 and OLDER means 1950, 1949, 1948, 1947, that means no 1951-59 street cars. That means no 1960s street cars. Since your profile page lists "NCRS nightmare 1962 Corvette beater" this means no racing for you IN THAT CAR, I'd guess. Here is a highlight page for last year. https://www.tucsondragway.com/post/2022-tucson-dragway-reunion-highlights It looks like race cars must appear to have a pre-1950 body, but I've never been and am not running it. They are also running a Tri 5 event the same day. So maybe if you have one of those? https://www.tucsondragway.com/_files/ugd/ec60a2_1ccb7f052e364d988488d669cfcade17.pdf They don't have much of an online presence.
@RodStRace was able to read it exactly right. The class on the flyer is Competition street coupe. The other classes on the same day will fit other cars so there is room for everyone. This class is giving the traditional street-driven hot rods a chance to show what they can do.
^^^ '50 means 1950. Agree they should have spelled it out as 1950 and made the flyer info more clear. Though Ron mentioned there's other classes for other cars. Not much info online.
The class on the flyer is Competition Street Coupe for car year 1950 and below. There are other classes on the same day that will fit other cars, so there is room for everyone. This class Competition Street Coupe, gives traditional street-driven hot rods a chance to show what they can do.
I'm taking Plan II up tonight to do some TnT, not sure what I'll be doing tomorrow...probably just putting a car in the show area and watching the fun
A few pics from the Friday night test and tune. Quite a few tri 5 chevys, not much else, but I expect the old cars will be out in force tomorrow. I took Plan II, made a couple passes. Probably bring my Vette tomorrow and park in the pits by Jimmy's yellowish 55. This is the 55 that was on the cover of Hot Rod with my Chevy II. My better pass (left lane) was still kind of slow This 55 used to be mine. I has a blower on it again, but something happened to the engine on the first pass tonight.
Saturday early report... A bunch of cackle cars were on site, including the Larry Huff Soapy Sales recreation - beautiful paint:
@Hot Rod Ron holding court with his wicked black coupe (for those that don't know, search for 227 hole coupe):
Finally (thank God for a picnic table in the shade and breeze!) they called cars to the lanes. The crew was getting ready on the starting line:
Uh-oh, we're down for a little bit while the safety crew takes care of a '57 that turned into a carbeque at the top end. Hope everyone's okay...
I had fun hanging out yesterday...it was warm! got to spend a lot of time visiting with several good folks and see some neat old cars go down the track.
Thank you to everyone who showed up despite the heat. Sounds like the track was happy, and it appears we will be able todo it again next year. I didn't get much time for photos, but here is what I could gather up.
Some very nice cars were there, thank you for taking the time to get the photos. I was a tad bit hot here though.
