Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by flamedabone, Nov 8, 2009.

  1. Great concept but they look like hub caps and always will. I realy like the fact your not runnining to a catalouge thou. Make something like it that looks like it belongs. You can do it.

  2. I like them....It's your car.....Do what you like. Centurion9

Since you want opinions one vote for sailing them out behind the house somewhere. Then let the kids play with them like Frisbees

I like the look but what if you could braze a stud to the inside of the cap and just screw them on without drilling a hole and using a stud and wignut affair. That would make them cleaner, no hole and wingnut, also need more airfilter showing, perhaps with some chrome mesh or something.

  5. to Joe Average they'll look cool...

I like the 'look' but I know what they are
so I'll have to say they don't belong on that engine

I think they look good, but, better still would be a set of 24" spinner wheels!

I dont think the HUBCAPS will fit on those beautiful wheels, so that shoots down my other suggestion. By the way you have built some beautiful cars.
The Merc blows me away. Keep up the good work.

You said you kinda like how they look.So there ya go, if you like it that is all that matters. After all is said and done its your car, build it the way you want.Use the $ that you would spend on air cleaners for other parts needed to get that sucker going.Who gives a rats ass what others think! If anyone ask's just tell them if I loose a hub cap I have a spare.

  13. They definately look like baby moons-because they are. I agree with a couple of people who suggested cutting the lip off, and using a larger element, or going with some sort of mesh. At a glance they look good, so I know you are close with your independent thinking....keep it up. It is more than okay to step out of the box. I am always trying to come up with some original design for my 94's, haven't come up with anything yet though.

I have one in my 292 and I like it ok(obviously). I just threw a few pinstripes on it. But, I haven't dressed up the engine bay at all yet. that comes later this winter.

I would say NO to cheesey looking, but
YES to looking very restricted. So therefore, I vote NO. Use something else, or use taller elements.

Not as cheezy as the carbs, sorry just my opinion

    Just kidding couldnt resist
the lower left has some "cheezy" still stuck on it
    air cleaner tops are everywhere

Them baby moons would look ok with a larger base and element

  23. I like 'em. After losing an engine this summer to rain down my carb, anything that sheds water gets my vote.
Maybe some black welting around the lip would finish 'em off.

I like 'em too. If there was only one of them it wouldn't look good, but two look nice.

They look great but definitely need a little taller filter element! No if they had Ford, Chevy or any other logo stamped in em, then they'd look a bit on the rat- rod side.

hey FLAMED...i agree, i believe their baby moon hubs. they look fine. but the real problem is , there isn't nere enough air flow. i know air filters and base are expensive. but in this case needed. or you could brang them up. and see how that looks...POP.

Put a fender washer under each nut so that when you see them sideways it looks like a pair of tits.

on a 6'5x2 tall element, theres about an inch all the way around, so its not restrictive at all. it'll flow worlds better than the 2 5/8 helmet or louvered style air cleaners. I dunno, just seems like it worked out for me.

  30. Paint em satin peach and get "pink nipple nuts" to attach em:D.

Actually I like em. What if you punched holes in the lip?
The pin stripe idea is good too.
