One thing about Ardun heads I could never figure out is, how did they seal the valve relief area? Did they weld the block and machine it flat or what? I know the pushrods came up through the old valve guide area so they could not just seal off the whole thing.

After 42 the blocks were not releived. No problems. In later years the block was usually O-ringed to help seal the gasket..

The Ardun heads will not work with a relieved block.
