I have Buick with a 401 nailhead and a set of Harley Rocket tip exhaust pipes that I want to use for tail pipes. Should I run straight pipes to the harley exhaust or will it sound like shit?
Straight pipes to the tips and sounds great. Did the same thing on my 53 Ford with a flatty and it sounds really good also.
Had a 59 ElCamino once with inline 6 and not much income while going to school on the GI Bill. Made a side pipe out of a driveshaft tube (they used to call that a bellow tube when I was a kid) and toned it down with a donated HD dresser muffler.
Yes, well there are 3 baffle tubes inside the Harley muffler but 1 tube has been cut out and the other 2 are in the factory location. These are stock harley mufflers not the aftermarket straight thru no baffle kind.
I'll have to see about digging 'em up. My hard drive died, and short of shipping it off and paying $500, my data is "lost" for now. ~Jason
Man, these are advertized in RebelRodz: http://www.motoarts.com/ While primarily for motorcycles, they're marketing them to hot rod folks. Not on my car, pal. "Re-entry": "Tailwind": "Flaming Raptor": "Exhausted":
I didnt like the small 1-3/4 diameter harley pipes so I found some cast alum tips at a swap meet and made these. 2-1/4 diam.
I love the look of harley fishtail tips. I had plans on using them on a 60 El Camino. I sold the car and I REGRET IT!! Nice looking rides guys...
I utilize two supertrapps I picked up used at a harley shop for mufflers on my model a . Works great. I had to flat black em though so they wouldn't stick out.
I know a lot of guys that knock the baffles out on their mufflers on their bikes, creating "muffler replicas". ~Jason
Can't tell if you're planning to run the whole pipes, including mufflers- When taking the stock mufflers off my harley, had a momentary flash of em welded under a car as chrome glasspacks. Then looked inside and realized they were gonna choke the hell out of a mild 350. They are designed for less than a hundred cubes after all. Would probably make a great muffler for something like a flathead or a 6. But don't have any business on a car pushing 401 cubes. JMO. Good luck either way
Looks like that coupe backed over a chopper. Makes me think of the cartoons in the old Easyriders mag. Next thing will be someone suggesting Bellflowers for Harleys.
Update.... Just got my electra from the muffler shop and couldn't be happier. Nice rumble with no straight pipe cackle.
Had this Streetglide muffler installed today on my 66 f100 with 300 ci. I was very surprised how quiet it is!
Sportster tips with the baffles gutted out. They still have the glass packing and screens and they make a quiet rumble with turbo mufflers. With straight pipes they would sound good
The only thing that sounds like 4 Harleys is 4 Harleys. Your stock Harley will sound much like a Volkswagen. Removal of that last baffle has been designed in such a way it's like "you're supposed to" this. "We at HD need to put this baffle here so we could sell the MC to you, and you need to remove it- but don't because it will violate some stupid regulation.
You don’t want Harley pipes on your car. As soon as you install them your car will have a strange vibration and parts will start falling off. And if you try to go anywhere you’ll need a greasy long haired guy following you in a van full of parts and tools
This is so, so subjective. I like a deep, big block rumble. A guy I know likes a higher toned, banshee rip. But we both like beer.
