I picked up a Weiand Ex-cellerator manifold with a Holley 600 (#4010) the other day for my SBC ('71 350). I have since found out that the #4010 is obsolete. Is anyone running one of these carbs? Problems? Concerns?
I am not, nor do I claim to be a carburetor expert. But the 4010 is not all that old. It came out in 1990 as a "show carburetor" The main body and the air horn are aluminum. They were discontinued in 1998. They are functionallly the same as the old Holley muscle car stuff we all loved ' back in the day' .....the 4150 series and the 4160 series. The 4150 has become a 4160 in most cases. The 4160 has a metering plate for the secondary and a 4150 as a metering block (with changeable jets). I would run the 4010..........they run well. If it is 'trash'.........then a new 600 cfm Holley is not all that much money $$$. Just my two cents, your experiences may vary, ....
I bought the 750 cfm version of a 4010 brand new in the early nineties. It worked well apart from a bit of a bog off idle. I ended up drilling the pump shooters out a bit and it sorted it out. I would have no hesitation using another if I found one.
I would pass on it. I F$%#ed with one that was a brand new takeoff. The guy took it off for a reason its a P.O.S. There kinda like the old Autolites. Holley quit making them for a reason. Believe Me it wasnt cause they were better than rest. ---FEDER
