Hi, This is going back a way,(i'm 63) my dad had a AMP meter that he just held by the wire on a generator or alternator and it would detect if it was charging. It was round 2". you did not have to probe the wire. It worked like a newer clamp on amp tester. any oneever seen one,I sure wish I knew what became of it,Dads no around to ask him. Russ
yes, I've got a couple of different manuf. models of those. Snao-on is one I can think of offhand. They do come in handy when you have a starter problem. jerry
The short circut testers come with one you would use it to see witch direction the short is when you lay it over the wire in question.
I've used a Snap On round meter with 2 different channels on the back to put over the wire. A large one for the battery cable to read the starter draw and a smaller one for the alternator wire. I think Cal Van made a square shaped one and I found a plastic version in a truck I bought.
