Anyone recognize this Merc???

Hi!

A friend is doing reaserch to find info about his Merc. It was bought from the Van Nuys area earlier this year. It's probably built in the 80s...

Has a supercharged flatty. buick sidetrim etc.

Isn't that a young Johnny posing with it? Anyone recognize it?

 

Have never seen it but I would really like to see some pics of the engine.

The car on hot rod tv show shows a 51 merc as Johnny Depps.
He may be building a clone of the first or??

 

I painted a car show display sign for Johnny D back in 90 or 91 not sure exact year for a Merc he had in the Austin car show. They called it the Roach Motel.

 

I recently saw on TV the Johnny Depp 'rebuild' of his Merc by BS Industries. A lot of hype for a car that's been in storage for a decade or two, and then only freshened up. It didn’t even deserve a whole episode. What a complete let down.

I like the fact that JD likes the old Lead Sleds, but he didn't even make a guest appearance.

I hate Johnny Depp

 

who built it, when and where is what we are interested in finding out.

 

Looks like one of those ol Dick Dean chops if I ever saw one.

 

I don't think that is Depp's ride. On that show mentioned above, they said he has had his for about 20 years +/-. It now has a different paint job. Good story about the guy who did the Apache design now on the car if you Google Depp's Mercury. It was interesting how they made the guy hurry up, wait and hurry up to do the art work so it would make the show. I don't remember details, only highlights, but a good read nonetheless.

 

Too bad the rear window on the Depp '51 is goofy, looks like something out of a car from the early 40's.

 

Ya I thought the same thing...kinda killed the car for me when I saw it on TV
