A friend has had his 37 coupe utility stored away for over 20yrs now, will get around to fixing one day. An elderly restorer up the road from me has had his 37 cabriolet or roadster stored away for the same time. Almost too old to drive these days. This another friends 37, he actually drives it all over the place in all sorts of weather. An interstate cabriolet at an event on the border last year.
Like your comments about the 38 standard. Once considered the ugly duckling but seems to be generally accepted now. Please see my 38 standard attached. g
Here's what I bought for $750.00, about 27 years ago. Scan_Pic0008 by Stu D Baker posted Feb 22, 2015 at 1:08 PM
When I built mine in 88/89 there weren't too many options. The guys putting halogen bulbs behind stock lenses were not getting consistently successful results. Some worked well. Others didn't. Nobody seemed to know why. I used Ron Francis reproductions of '37 bulbs. Had correct offset filament but used std twist lock mount like 1157. So I bought his sockets too. Used stock adjusters and reflectors but had to open reflector mounting hole a little. Was tricky to figure out proper orientation because sockets are not keyed to reflector like originals and bulb could be put in upside down. Also tricky to figure out which filament was hi-beam. Don't put sealed beams behind stock lenses. New clear lenses probably go well with sealed beams. These are my recollections from way back when. Surprised nobody else responded with more recent experiences.
