Bill saved it after it was well on its way to being a street rod, convinced the owner to change direction.

nice color, cool truck. one of the things i like about it is, it is complete. they didn't just take the running boards of they reshaped them, full interior, wipers, lights, bumpers, trim etc.........

Deep is an understatement on that finish. As a sucker for dark reds/maroons, I gotta say that one is remarkable.

apparently....on the HAMB, the terms "Hot Rod" and "Street Rod" are "fluid"....:D

that's not to say the truck isn't stunning.....it is........but by conventional HAMB standards, it sure looks 'street roddy'........and I am okay with that. Am not so much a purist as many claim to be.

Really? Where's the billit? I hate to disagree with you but I don't see street roddy. Other then perhaps the fit and finish is a lot tighter then it would be back then it looks like something right out of 1962 to me.

Is 'billet' the determining factor between a hot rod and a street rod? Actually, this is a 'Custom' more than a Hot Rod....and you are correct...it is straight out of the little books....though to a very high standard of fit and finish. Carry on........:)

I would imagine, he is talking about the M2 front end, tubular crossmembers, generic SBC. Those are the things that caught my eye. Overall, I think they did a good job of preserving the traditional vibe.

The early sixties, when rods could have custom features, is one of my favorite eras. Not everybody gets it.

This truck was in Oct '61 Hot Rod, looking pretty much as you see it here. Maybe it needs flat black paint, '35 wires and some spider webs??

  24. That truck is pretty tight in many ways. I'm not sure how anyone could find fault unless they just got off the "perfect train" or the "chaos choo choo"

The 'canted' quad headlight treatment, while common (fashionable ?) in the period, were and are incongruous with the lines of the truck.....to my eyes at least. While it is perfectly legitimate to preserve period treatments in the interest of historic accuracy, I would note that is one styling gimmick that has not found favor in new builds in subsequent years.

Had the original style headlights been refitted when it was restored it would still be a stunning looking vehicle, but without the period 'beauty mark' (mole). But, as always, to each his own.

as far as Im concerned any car that made Hot Rod magazine is historically significant, so changes like that should be a federal crime, punishable by jail time. Changing the headlights out would COMPLETELY destroy the truck, rendering it unrecognizable, and I get that MOST guys on here think that is DESIRABLE, and every attempt should be made to wipe our history from the face of the planet. I get that's the new mission statement on here. Of course I wish it had gone back together with the olds motor, belly burners and original dropped axle in it, but at least its still recognizable. I gotta wonder how long it will be before the HAMB starts organizing public little book burnings...

A little extreme reaction there......considered prescription meds lately? How do you square thinking others might start burning books with your own intolerance for opinions different than your own? Physician, heal thyself.
