Anyone know how to repair stainless trim?

    Just goin though my trim for my 50 chevy.Anyone ever repair stainless trim ,dents some holes.Its the trim under the windows and along the rockers. thanks for any help..

  2. The dents you can tap out with a tiny hammer or body pick, but use a sand bag or something to back it up. Then polish it.
    The holes can be filled, but you'll need a TIG at low amperage to weld stainless that thin. Back up the weld area with copper or brass, and don't stay on it too long. It'll turn blue, but will grind and polish out.
    Try not to leave any low spots. Stainless crystalizes real easily (especially thin stuff) and doesn't like to be re-heated too many times. The first time's the charm.

    an old body working manual i have says you can pour lead into a section of trim to cast a lead "slug" to assist in tapping a dented spot of trim into shape.
