Not sure but it looks like the guy in the center of the picture is laughing! The driver won't be laughing when he hits a high spot in the track and burns his bum! P-Dog.....
(Red) Case-Cagle-Callahan car. One of the cars at Freeway, in Texas, for the first "East-West" meet. I scratched models of it a couple times as a kid, one of'em with batteries and a motor. I rather like this picture with the crossing pipes on the injectors, didn't care for the "scupper" pipes. Likely'd still be better'n popping a set of gears off the quick-change pressed aginst your nuts if he'd built it as a slingshot of the period.
Amazing!!!! Can you imagine showing up with this "suicide machine" at an NHRA/IHRA event today..... even back in the day people had to be shaking there heads at this one. Why in the world would anyone waht to do something like this..... WHY???? ..... because they could!!!! Would LOVE to see/hear more about this extremely unique rail. Can you imagine seeing videos of this on U-Tube. From the looks of the background it appears this picture was taken in the mid 50's.
The more scary it is the more fun you will have. To cool, now days the no fun group would stop this in a second.
Most of the middies of this type ran pretty straight and well (Case died in a slingshot, not in this car). Their was, however, one dangerous thing about'em. The proximity of the push car's bumper to the race car's rear tires. To wit ........ Not the Case car, but a very similar one, same style. Note the strength of the roll bar that the wagon's K-frame's resting upon.
