Hello, I'm looking for some info on installing an okie bushing on a 1950 fleetline, in particular how much resistance there should be when hammering in the new bushing, I have about 4 more inches to go to seat my bushing all the way in and it's pretty tight, just would like some advice before l really start hammering away at it, Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!
I've had three 49's a 51 and a 53. none of them had anything called an Okie bushing. edit: well would you look at that. an Okie bushing. my Mom's side of the family came from Oklahoma, you would think I would have heard of a special bushing just for Okies.

I have heard of some imported Oakie bushings being over-sized, and some have destroyed torque tubes trying to get them in. Have you measured and compared the old one? Have a look on VCCA website, there is more info there. Good luck!
'Imported' Okie Bushings??? Now I've heard everything. Remember 'imitation ice milk'? O.K., copy milk, thicken it, freeze. But importing of Okies has got to stop. (we Californians had our fill last dustbowl!)
...Install what is sometimes called an “Okie Bushing”, an aftermarket, produced originally in Oklahoma... Well I'll be, funny how these things get their names.
Measure it first,if it's Okie,it should fit Okie! Seriously,if it measures Okie, but it in the freezer for awhile, lightly warm your torque tube then knock it in,that should work Okie!
Yep freeze the okie and hammer in. I would make a 'pilot" that fit loosely and was flanged (just an install tool) to keep from flaring the top of the tube.
In Texas it's against the law to bring an Okie bushing over the border unless it's over 18 years old.
I installed an Okie bushing in the torque tube of my (mostly) stock '37 Chevy coupe several years ago and it's working great so far.
I think I will buy one ,take it to China and then have them reproduced with inferior material and then someone can write about me in the HAMB. It will be called the Chinese Okie from Iowa thread.
