Projects Anyone ever see one of these chevy panel trucks?

    The railroad stuff back then was all done by aftermarket upfitters or conversion companies.

    The factory modifications were pretty much limited to special paint colors.

    Beaner is correct in that the six cylinder engine and four speed transmission was the most popular powertrain combination for the one ton panel vans of the era.

    No Diesel option in Chevy light trucks until the Olds Diesel in 1978.

    Medium trucks had the 4-53 Detroit in the sixties, but the take rate was low, and the GMC of the era had the Toro Flow V6 Diesel, a market failure.

    Jim that funky V-6 was a pretty good runner. Great for chasing coyotes. LOL. Lippy
     
  3. I replaced one of those V6s in a school bus with a 283 out of a dump truck. The bus belonged to a church and the driver may have dipped into the sacramental wine before a trip and managed to trash it. I tore it down and it seems like it lost a fuel pump diaphragm and dumped the crank case full of fuel.
