Hey, all. I answered an add on CL for free tires and found this. It came from what must have been an old garage or repair shop. There were hundreds of tires just laying around (found a couple for my truck and some to sell too.)

It's an Armstrong Bias Ply WW. Has a really cool pie crust and the word rhino- flex on the side wall. Don't know anything about Armstrong tires, never heard of them before. I only took this one (fool) but there were a dozen or so more of different makes in various states of use.
I don't run bias plys (still on the fence about it and the 58 isn't running right anyway) but I love the look of old (and new-Coker,Firestone) bias plys.
I find these occasionally and am going to start a little collection just
cause I like 'em-especially if they are freebies.
Anyone else collect them? I so, lets see 'em.

  3. Armstrong tires have been around forever I have one of there signs in my shop it has a rineo on the sign.

Also have one the bias plys that came with my 58. Kinda plain looking black wall (guess the og was not hip to the white wall scene) with minimal pie crust to it. Cant find any markings on it but it (like the Armstrong) has cool tread grooves.
    Anyone else?

Pirelli bought Armstrong out in the late 80s, for a while they were known as Pirelli-Armstrong.

I have a set of old Denman Bias ply's that I put on for local shows, I don't wnt to wear them out traveling so if more that 60 miles round trip the Radials go on. Sometimes I will take the radials off before putting the truck in a show and put the old tires back on. The Denmans are 600 / 16s. I'd tell you what I payed for them but the wife might find out .

  10. I have them on my Deuce pickup..

And two of my old bias plys I use for decoration

I use one for my redneck Christmas wreath,it's a worn out Coker..:D

And the other sits outside the entrance door of my shop year round! HRP

I don't collect them, but I have two sets right now. I have some ancient black walls on stock 49-51 ford wheels I used for mock up ages ago and never got rid of, and I have a set of Goodyear 15" whitewalls that are worn so smooth they are practically slicks on two of them, that I don't even remember how they came to be in my shed...

Old bias plys are good for making shop clocks.

  14. I had some really really cool ones but sold them off when money was tight. Now I just got a couple sets of regular WWW's. Bias Plys are way cooler than radials:cool:

I have a set of F78-15 Good Year custom power cushion polyglass on my 65 Rivi. I love them, but the 425 has more oomph than they can handle, hahaha... I love them.

And my 56 Bel Air has B.F Goodrich Silvertowns on it. They have these fine piecrusts, not as coarse as the firestones.... I really love bias plys, they make or brake the look of a car compared to radials in my eyes...

When I bought my 61 Starliner it came fitted with three 14" radials and this Atlas Plycron. It's in pretty good shape; I guess I should clean it up and make some sort of wall hanger out of it.

I've got a couple ancient sets of Bias Ply Slicks in my garage. One pair is from Marsh and the others are JC Penney.
