The Cycle Car Thread is over 15 years old I believe, has many avid HAMB followers.

WOW! Welcome to the HAMB! I'd like to see the welding equipment used on that Willys. Bob [IMG]

If you want sit in it rather than on your single seat A7 it's usually done like this:

On the left side shorten one axle shaft and turn a new hub taper and machine a new Woodruffe keyway. On the right side cut two axle shafts and get the two bits friction welded together. Then cut and weld the casing as in the photo. The Austin 'works' racing cars had a very similar offset driveline setup from the early 30s.

I shaped the Willys up in 22 gage and gas welded with a Henrob, but then shelved it to convert the avatar into a coupe. Evidently that is not permitted here although I spotted some Anglias and Dorsets in the Traditional Thread.
    Sorry.

Glad we got to see the scratch built Willys. You are very talented, lucky is the car you get to rebuild. Bob

  13. Bet there are plenty of guys here who would like to see the A40 Coupe or at least the new body. The Austin A40 is often seen in old black and white pics in the drag race threads and race car threads. No more off topic than a hot Topolino or hot Anglia . Theres even a complete build thread of hamb member @Deuced Up! who converted his 4door A40 Somerset into a 2door wheelstanding racer, and it,s a beauty too. To bad it was stolen in mid 2017.

A friend in Florida built a clone of this car, think it is in The Wheels of Time collection now.

Increasing the performance or personalizing any car prior to 1965 makes it HAMB friendly. Just because it didn't happen on American soil doesn't mean it's not a hot rod......Using a T-5 transmission or an S-10 chassis is hardly traditional either....yet, the practice is shown on the HAMB with regularity.
