Im looking at a ruff 57 2 door post car and want to make it more of a strip car/ weekend cruiser I like the looks off the 55car clips better and was wondering how they would fit the 5 7 I want a tilt front glass clip. Is this doable? Think it will look ok? And anyone know a place that sells cheap fiberglass clips? Let me know if this is a stupid idea
I think it would not look very good... plus, I think where the hood fits the cowl is different. Besides... they make fiberglass 1 piece front ends... leave the bumper off and it'll look bad ass! Sam
i love this idea! Iv always liked the 55 clips better my self but i like the 57 ass so it just makes since! I say go for it
When I was q kid (just last week) I drew a picture of a '57 body with a '55 front clip. In my mind I took the best of the two years and combined them. Then I sat back and looked at my abomination. It was suddenly clear to me why it wasn't done this way to begin with. There is no "flow" between the years. The designer(s) understood symmetry and the square lines of the '55 don't work with the curvaceous lines of the '57. If I must, I'll scan and post the drawing.
5and 6 will interchange directly, 57 has a completely different cowl, and would require some fab to make it work.
Not just the cowl area but also the rockers are different on a '55. It could be done but it's not a bolt-on swap or anything, it would require a fair amount of work.
There is at least one custom called the 5-6-7. The front end is a 55 Chevy, the mid trim and interior is a '56 and it has a '57 rear end. It is so slick it looks factory made.
^ You talking about the 789 Chevy? It looks like ASS. I won't post a pic, but if you dare, it's here: http://www.57classicchevy.com/789-chevy.html
I would say that's not the one he is talking about. I too believe I know the one and went looking for a picture on another site. Can't find it right now.
no it is a real car not a corvette, 55 clip 56 body and trim 57 fins... will try to find a pic neat, but I wouldn't own it
It's a little known fact... but the engineers designed the grille treatments for the 55, 56 and 57 Chevies all at the same time. Sam
I don't know why people are so down on this. You'd have to change the cowl to make it work, but as long as there was no side trim, or it all came off one car, I don't know why it wouldn't work visually. Unless you plan on wrapping it around a telephone pole, you can't see the back from the front and vice versa anyways... Oh, wait, I forgot where I was for a second there. This is the HAMB, where something like 9 out of 10 guys hate traditional full on customs of the late 50s and 60s.
