I'm just about to land my first Tri Five Chevy. It's a '55 4 door but I'm just HAPPY to have one!

I guess if it is your only vehicle and you need to haul hay for a livin'...

You might be caught on the stigma of a 4 door. Forget what people say about four doors. Fix it up as a driver and haul girls, dogs, friends, family, whatever, then sell it for a profit if you want a truck.

or as someone is dying to post

    MAKE IT A GASSER!

I like 4 door 55s alot better than any of those trucks.
I just saw the nicest 4 door 55 that has ever been cut, this past weekend at the somernites cruise tri five weekend in somerset ky.
It was a 4 door roadster, I wouldnt recomend doing this either but this one was extremely nice.

there was a black 57 Chevy (passenger car/sedan) pick up on the show circuit years ago in UK (i think) - think it was a 'mainland europe' based builder; basically the rear half of the 57' chopped off and a tilt wooden flat bed out back - remember seeing a pic of it in 'Custom car' mag I bought years ago.... as I remmeber it had 'short front doors' so started life as a 4 door, and it won a prize or two... I remember thinking 'what a waste of a 57 chevy...'

Anyone have a real nice Nomad they would give me a good deal on so I could build one of those pre-caminos?

It could have some rust in the roof as long as the rest was solid.

That right there is funny, I don't care who you re! lol!

for the record my sainted father turned my 1960 Biscayne 4 door into a submarine. used it to anchor his dock. It leaked. It's still there though, I could probably find it:eek:

  17. Not a Submarine, but I remember a story someone posted that they made a '53 Chevy into a septic tank. That close enough?

Also, worth a search for an old custom '54 Olds hardtop that was made into a pickup. Top shortened and moved up and an El Camino style bed fabricated for it. Wasn't bad looking but I would imagine the headroom was tight.

After looking at the 5 window (whats left of it) in your avatar, Are you saying that to modify this car is some kind of sin ? Cut up a Chevy = burn in hell. Cut up a ford = Now you are super kool

Thank you for offering to do this. I will get pics up tomorrow for you. Some of the stuff posted is great but I don't see a step side look yet. if you have time maybe a version of the car in DreddyBears Avatar only with a 55 Chevy body, front fenders missing, rear tires over the deck lid, well you get the idea & add a giant air valve on the roof to inflate it.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Jon, hope this earns it. A pickup style back looks kinda boxy; in this case if a combination of Nomad style B pillars and curved back glass is combined it gives the cab more flow.

As for the source of this photoshop, the car was originally a Nomad in PHR magazine, found it on the 'Net.

Thanks that is nice. The four door will have a short door. What gave me the idea besides getting this 55 - 4 door was remembering a guy with a 64 GTO that was rear ended, then cut off and a step side box fitted, this was back in the 70's

Here's a stepside version, sorta, but with the Nomad style rear wheel radius. Go ahead and post your pic, it'll give me a better idea of the short vs long door. Being a Ford guy I can't quite picture it.

That's a Holden from Australia - most likely an FC model

    And they were factory produced:cool:

Australia produce a ute model of that - only the rear of the roof was rounded (Kinda like a coupe) with a small 1/4 window.
