Building a Model A Modified Roadster, set it up for a SBC but I'm thinking of throwing in my Pontiac 428. Only problem is, I haven't built the engine yet and before I throw my money into it......I have about 32 inches of clearance from my firewall to the radiator. Anyone know if thats enough clearance for it to fit?
I don't know how they compare in size to a SBC. Also wondering if theres any other issues with running a Pontiac compared to SBC as far as clearing steering, the frame rails etc.....so anyone who's thrown in a Poncho in their Rod, please let me know any problems or headaches you've encountered. I just don't like the idea of being another guy with a SBC in a Model A haha, thanks in advance!!!!

  2. The same F-bodys that came with a Chevy 350 came with a Pontiac 350, there's not that much difference in size.

  7. Whoa where'd the intro police go ?

You'll love that 428 in the coupe!!
It will probably take something beyond 1800 hot rods but it will be just fine.

Be mindfull of your starter to to steering box clearance, other than that, it will fall right in there.

    Good luck, -Abone.

Here is my '31 Chev with a 389. Custom headers & frame notched for steering box, along with custom fabbed blower drive, but everything fits old school. Flamedabone has the most bitchin & fastest traditional street rods powered by Pontiac in the whole world. HE IS THE REAL DEAL! Come check him out at HAMB Drags.

my 455 in an OT 68 gto had 6x-8 heads(smogger 400 heads) xe274 cam by comp. Peroformer rpm intake edelbrock 800. Stock rods with arps. Forged pistons. All casting flash was cleaned up inside the motor for oil flow back.a good balance job and a tuned hei 32*by 2200 with 12 initial.

with a th400 2400 stall 3.42 12bolt would run consistant 13.2 anyday everyday. I believe it weighed in at 3900lbs. When I pulled the motor out to swap in a 350 Pontiac to sell it I found a kink in my fuel line. Should have been a easy 12 second car.

built it when I was 17. Got in lots of trouble with it. I would build the exact motor in a heart beat.

with your 428 I would duplicate it but 6x-4 heads with a clean up. Good vacuum great sounding idle. More torque then u will ever need. I delievered pizzas in that car and put 60k plus in 2 years. I miss it.

It's killer to see all the cars and fellow Poncho lovers! Thanks for all the input and comments, you guys are motivating me haha!
I think you guys will probably slap me for even thinking of the way I want to build this Rod though.....probably shouldn't even mention it lol

As far as the engine specs, I don't quite know them yet. My brother was actually going to build it with me just before he passed away....so it's all cleaned up and waiting for me to build it at his old shop. I'll keep you guys posted!
