My dad just picked up a 46 ford truck rear end for the 27 roadster i'm building him. Its supposadly an open rear, which i wouldnt have guessed. Anyone know what gear ratios these came with? What hubs/brakes will bolt up ?(the originals are rusted solid). Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Assuming you're talking about the open drive 42-47 Ford Commercial (Pickup/Panel) rearend the Ford factory ratios available were 3.54:1, 3.78:1, 4.11:1, 4.55:1. Ford uses the term Truck as a reference to 3/4-1-ton up vehicles in those days. As far as brakes go, any 42-48 Ford Passenger car or 42-47 Pickup brakes will do the job. Parts are readily available. You may be able to adapt 53-56 F100 brakes to the rear as well.
Well...i'd like to keep the the investment to a minimum, and fabrication or brackets is my least of worries..... I need to keep the open drive though as i'm running a flatty with a c4 behind it
This answer for this thread, gave me an answer I have been looking for all week....THANKS Gear Ratios....YOU ARE THE MAN !!!!!
