ive seen 59s with 60 merc grill.... and ive seen them with a tube grill..... but what other grills can be put in a 59 chevy and look good?????? pics would be good........
54 Chevy grille teeth use to be the ticket, you would double them for a tighter fit also the older Vette same story
That's Tats Gotanda's (sp.) classic, "Buddah Buggy", Built decades ago by Bill Hines. More pics can be seen HERE (Thanks to Rikster! ): http://public.fotki.com/Rikster/11_car_photos/beautiful_custom_cars/bill_hines/59_chevy_customs/
Last time I was at Bill Hines' shop it was there, supposedly to get a total restoration. Do you know if they have started on it yet?
You can see some shots of the restored version HERE: http://www.billhinestheleadslinger.com/recentprojects.html I always loved the dechromed fins, as well as the "Salvador Dali" taillights. (AMT models echoed this shape in their '59 El Camino customizing kit.) The current lenses are a later update, similar to the ones used on the Candy red El Camino Hines also built in the sixties. This car had hydraulic suspension WAY back in the day! Truly one of the great customs of all time.
Kid Duece photos Dave Dale photo And another Hines Chevy... Other samples... Fine tubular/strip grille in this early 60's built custom... '54 Chevy grille Same Merc grille... but then cut down with molded headlights...
The 60 Merc grille is the most popular and my favorite, but I was thinking a grille from a 60 Olds 88 would be a pretty easy conversion and wouldnt look too bad..
Some of the Buick grills look pretty good but the 60 Merc grill and head lights looks like it should have been installed there in the first place.
thanks for all the pics........ 60 merc grills are definitly the coolest..... i wonder if a 58 ford would look good.......
I like the 58 buick grille or...I havent seen this before...What about a 59 cadillac grille..you know with all those little bullets...that might be interesting
The Caddy bullets would indeed work well with the '58 Ford mesh that was asked about. I have seen them used together on a couple of older customs, but have been unable to find pics (so far). Availability/cost might be an issue. '59 Buick is another option, as is '60 Olds.
