I've done searches but haven't found the right answer. I'm currently running a 223 with a 3-speed std. tranny in my '54 customline, all stock drivetrain. I have a 272 out of a truck with an 11" clutch and would like to put it in the car and keep my 3-speed. My question is: Will that clutch/pressure plate fit under a car bellhousing? The pressure plate is 3" tall and when mounted sets 4 3/8th inches away from the block mounting surface.
For what it's worth... I have a 58 Ford Ranch Wagon with a 223 and 3 speed (no overdrive). The 223 flywheel is the same as the Y Block Flywheel. I just converted my 9.5" clutch to an 11" clutch using a Y Block flywheel. Everything fit under the bellhousing just fine.
