I think it was under a carport of sorts, but weather got to it as the top was rotten and most of the rubber is rotten...the bottom end turns so freely that I thought we would try n fire it...only one valve that was open had some rust on the stem...but we thought might as well clean em all....the motor was rebuilt in 64-65..it barely shows wear..pistons are stamped .40 ....the gas tank luckily was drained..I ran gas through it..came out super clean....replaced water and fuel pump etc etc....Im just glad it was a CA car...the weather in Fresno is nothing like the good ole midwest...
Nah...you're not excited...lol. I hear you. I'd probably forget to go to bed. Sittin' there...suddenly realize it's 3:30 am. I've done it on nice summer nights...lol. (not on a school night, though) Good for you, Mark. Always nice to see a fellow hot rodder get happy.
Pics or it didn't happen...well thats 3 sets of pics connecting the dots...that's pretty much sex on 4 wheels ya got @Mark Jenny...congratulations and look forward to your selective resurrection... Man that is cool...
I just realized you brought that poor call back here to Missouri. I wonder if it will hate Missouri as much as I do? I'm originally from Calif. too.
Great car with documented history, and impressive it survived so much intact. Even the paint looks like it'll clean up really nice with only minor touchups. Glad it went to someone who appreciates it's history.
Thanks....I rubbed out a bit of the paint ...it does come back...good ole lacquer!...I may leave some of that patina, runs and all
lol....not sure I hate Missouri...there is a lot to like here....don't care for the tornadoes so much...although Fresno isn't the place one dreams of when you hear about California...I'm sure the old gal will be happy here in my heated and cooled shop
There is something very special about survivor hot rods!!..it's like a 52 Topps Mickey Mantle rookie..just plain classy!
I kinda think I remember that very ad. But there were a lot of ads just like that in HRM back then. I would daydream about them while reading the mag over and over again in my room. I'm happy for you.
That white goop under the thermostat is likely the result of some corrosion caused by just running water in the cooling system, reacting with the aluminum. I assume if the gas tank had been drained that the cooling system also was? Was there much pitting inside the water passages of the intake after you cleaned the goo out? Really sweet find, congratulations!!
yes...there is pitting inside the intake...the stuff was like cottage cheese...not hard at all...just packed tightly in the water passages....most guys are guessing chemical reaction between the thermostat and aluminum intake as thats the only place it occurred...nothing in the radiator or block...
Sweet car..., Whenever someone drags an old rust bucket on here bragging about the "patina" your pictures above should be shared to illustrate what patina really is. … I'd love to see it in person! -Dave
