did think about it, but the trans is difficult to remove from the truck
Go man go! I love reading and seeing pics of your adventures. This one is gonna be good!
What did Steve Kinser say? "A racer is someone who heads out in anything that is not broken."
On a positive note; nobody will have any grounds to claim your Chevy isn't a "street car".
...Well,...your race car is called "Plan II" !
...I really wanted to check out your pickup,...good luck with the rest of your trip.
keep us posted.
Good luck and have a safe trip!
You don't get stories like this siting in a lawn chair at the cruise night around the corner. You need to get your hotrod out on the road and drive it. If you can't drive it outside your own zip code...you have failed. Way too many cars with 3 gallon gas tanks, and seating positions that a Russian gymnast couldn't fit into. Kudos to you Squirrel for not letting anything get in the way of a good time.
I couldn't believe you sold the Suburban, I thought it was a great re-engineered and well executed project. Hope your butt isn't too sore from kicking yourself.
Glad to see you making the best of it. Good luck!
Wish you were up this way, I'd go after it and keep it for you no problem.
But back up to the top with ya.
Someone help Jim out here, come on fellas its not that big a deal.
Did you look in the pan of the TH400? My 700r4 quit a couple months ago, two days after I had the radiator repaired. They must have gotten some crap in the tank because the filter was plugged, either that or strange coincidence. New filter, going strong...
Jim, I know that this is a pain for you and what I have to say may not be totally appropriate, but "GO MAN GO"
We are all pulling for you my friend.
Jim, you are THE MAN! I'm about 40 miles SE of St. Louis and wish I was with you! Good luck and please keep us posted!

So got an Edsel and a Corvair to live thru a race, and the truck craps out on you. Were you out of bubble gum and baling wire?
Whoa! Bummer about the truck, but man, have fun in the Chevy II!!
Sorry to hear about the truck breakdown. We are all pulling for you!! I'm sure you will make it just fine and show em how it done at the track as well. Good luck!
Most likely the governor took a dump, easy to access & change... but you're on the move.
Another gas station. How many is that so far?
A lot. I get to ride shotgun for a few miles.
I don't know if it's bad voodoo or what, but over the years I've heard a lot of bad stories involving trying to drag a race car through New Mexico. Tucumcari seems to figure into many of them for some reason.
Ehhh....squirrel should be ok....no flames on the Chevy and I don't think Vic Morrow is around anymore!
We are all pulling for you Jim,love seeing the car out on the road...Again! HRP
Leave it to you to turn Drag Week into Power Tour!
GO MAN GO!
Jim, who ya running with? Your brother again?
"Hard core'' applies here. Best of luck to you.
This one may top the corvair adventure, also I think I may have just recognized my favorite long bed truck.
....of course Im a sucker for orange and slots and old chevys too.....so go figure
Enjoyed the trucks brief bio on your sig web page.
Hoping you packed the ol' 3.00 gear'd spare 3rd member, or might possibly score an affordable used one on the way. That "alot" gas station comment made me ponder the highway rpm. Thanks for the updates & admire your determination to press forward. As always we're rooting for you & Plan B ! Flux.
If any of you guys need anything when you get to IL, I'm located in Freeport, just about the center of all the activities. I have a 2 car garage with 88' of double wide concrete driveway outside. I have some tools & equipment available. Gene
Here in Ioway, can't help too much, but ifn ya need a 9/16" open end or somethin' like that just holler.
My friend Dan is riding with me. He's been on drag week with me three times already.
The Chevy II has a gear vendors overdrive now and 3.89 rear cogs. Cruises at 68 mph fine. Kind of a handful to handle at higher speeds with the bias tires and altered wheelbase.
Thanks for all the offers of help! Hope we don't need any, but it's a great feeling to know folks are willing to help.
The car turned 15k miles today.
