A question that should e a piece of cake for this board. What is the wheelbase of the 1940 Willys pick up truck? Found the wb for the coupe, nothing for the truck.
To the best of my knowledge, Willys wheelbases for the coupe sedan and pickup were the same if they were manufactured in the same production year. They used the same frames ! With that in mind if you have the '40 coupe wheelbase, the frame would be the same for the pickup of that year. Willys changed wheelbases periodically by changing the position of the center bolt hole on the rear spring. Wheel base was changed in '39 &40...and again in '41 Often this left the wheels in the wheel well off-center...either forward in the wheel opening, or farther back...but definitely not centered in the wheel well opening. Apparently Willys was not too consistent in changing the wheel opening on rear fenders to center the rear wheel. Rodders, and racers often re-cut the openings to center the wheel. g-willys
G-Willys, Thank you for the help. Looking at pictures and applying a little Kentucky windage, they looked close. Of course close only counts in horse shoes and nukes. I do like the gasser. Had a guy down here in south Louisiana Joe Teuton, in the 60's to mid 70's that owned the gas class with his 40 truck, he ran C, but owned gas class, except for the occasional supercharged car, a beautiful yellow truck with a 301 Chevy.
We had a local guy here (the Twin cities...Mpls/St Paul) ...Al Tschida, that also ran C/gas, and won the Nationals in 1964...He is gone now...but what a driver...he could make a 4-speed shift like an automatic. Ran a Hillborn set up on a small block chevy....shown HERE. g-willys
