Veteran actor, Sheb Wooley who appeared in over 50 television shows and westerns like "High Noon" and recorded a song that became a number 1 hit years ago, "Purple People Eater," died Tuesday at the age of 82 after suffering from Leukemia....
I believe he had a alter ego named "Ben Colder" He recorded some stuff under that name also........sorta comedy theme stuff....
Dang, what a month. There's not too many of the originals left. I love Shebs records from the early 50s on MGM. Great hillybilly boogie.
As I opened this thread "Addicted to Love" came on the radio in my office. Saw him a couple of years ago in concert. Not one of my favorite music men but he put on one hell of a good show. 54 is just too young. Kinda scary
I remember when "Purple People Eater" came out. I was 11 and my pals and I loved it and sat around trying to imagine what the "Eater" looked like. There was an oval track racer from up-island who ran a purple Deuce coupe in '59 and named it after Shep's song. Thanks for the tune Shep! - R.I.P.
