It's his car, his barn and if he doesn't want you messing with his stuff to get at the car, respect that. Just because the owner isn't doing anything with it doesn't give you any cause to be pissed if he put you off.

  3. Please read the whole thread, the owner is now good to go with selling it.

just give it another shot later and do like others say and make a better offer and maybe just maybe you'll be able to get it someday, OT maybe but i tried buying a old racing go kart from my unlce for about 12+ years, and one day he ended up just giving it to me bc he knew it meant a lot to me

I got it! It came out much easier than I thought. Remarkably once the shed was torn off the barn the door actually opened. The floor of the barn was about 6inches of ash. The car was sunk right into it. No springs attached to the I-beam, makes no sense.

Well its definately not a '31, but it is a Chrysler. I'm waiting for one of the pros to post and tell me exactly what it is.

As I was talking to the owner today the story changed quite a bit from the last time we talked. Today he tells me that the car was allready inside the barn when his father purchased the property in 1949. So nobody really knows just how long the car has been in there.

No cowl vents and no fold out windshield. Lot of wood in it.
Anyone know what year this is?

Yeoman, good eyes! Thats a '41 Dodge fordor sedan. That is a dedicated piece of lawn art, and won't be going anywhere soon. It is packed full of goodies though, I saw a few artillery wheels and some wire wheels in there.

Brewster, yes thats an old horse drawn sleigh. It to has seen better days, to them it was worth something. The car was just junk.....

Oh, by the way...this Chrysler has a Briggs body tag on the firewall. Incase that little bit of info can help identify the year of this thing.

  21. Check the right door hinge post for a tag riveted between the middle and bottom hinge that says "Serial Number" - I can look that up in my Chrysler book. Could be on the dash, too, my book says 31 is the first year for the door post tag.

That said, it looks just like a picture of a '30 Chrysler in my book, although '29 is similar and with all the half-year models the only way to know for sure is with the number on it.

PM me the number, if you don't want to post it here. Could do the engine number, too, it's on the side of the block somewhere in the middle, but the serial is more sure.

Looks like you made out okay, anyways, without my help while I was hitting the fresh put outs at the salvage yard this morning -

Whew!! Now we can all breath a little easier. Looks like you can spend the next 10 years and about ,say $20,000 or more and have a restored car that will sell for $10-$15,000. The other direction would be to spend a couple years and $5,000 and build a rat rod that's worth $1500.:rolleyes::D

  23. Or you can put it in your barn and spend all day online putting down other people for actually working on a car that you have to fabricate and actually search for parts to put it together. If you're whining about the value versus the cost to build, you don't understand this hobby and probably never will.

  24. put the car back and drag the barn home good luck

The rear springs and axle tube are still there. They just sit really low.

I hope you're just kidding. There's no reason he couldn't take that $5000 you referred to and build a cool hot rod out of it.
We can't all afford '32 Fords and it'd pretty boring if that's all anyone built anyway.
