Another 341 hemi question

Does the LA 318 timing cover work on a 341 DeSoto? I've heard that it will work but no mention of what it takes to fit it on the engine was made. Thanks, Rob

 

Has anyone with a DeSoto hemi tried this or ever heard of the 318 front cover fitting on the 341?

 

It can be made to work with some modification. Tom Waters up in Vermont has done this conversion. He looks on the www.hothemiheads.com discussion forum so maybe ask there for him to share what it takes to use the LA cover. It will require some welding of extra material to the front bottom of the cover to seal the lower water jacket openings in the Desoto block. There are also other mods needed so just talk to Tom. He is always very helpful!

 

We have done a couple of these swaps, not real complicated but does require a milling machine. To describe the process would require alot of space here, so if you want to discuss the work give us a call. If you are just curious about the fit-up, lay an LA cover on the the block face and study the bolt holes and the water ports.
One of the most important things to keep in mind is that the bore for the lip seal must be kept concentric with the crank.
