In the mid '50s ... before he was the flagman at Half Moon Bay dragstrip ... before his years with Champion Speed Shop ... before selling "Instant T" roadsters (& winning the '70 AMBR with one) ... before he held annual "Picnics" ... before he started a Tee-Shirt business ... and well before he was given the moniker "The Rodfather" ... Roy Andrew Brizio (better known as "Andy") built this bitchin' 1932 Ford 5-window Coupe:
The July 1958 issue of ROD BUILDER & CUSTOMIZER magazine: ... included a feature article on Andy's Deuce 5wd: Rod Builder & Customizer - July '58 - pages 40 & 41 Rod Builder & Customizer - July '58 - page 42 Rod Builder & Customizer - July '58 - page 43
Timeless. And 60 years later it still stands as, "a monument of cleanliness and exceptionally fine workmanship".
Looks like Andy started the resto-rod craze a bit earlier than others. That's a neat car, thanks for posting HEMI32.
The 1957 National Roadster Show Souvenir Catalog: ... reveals that Andy entered his Deuce 5wd in the "Street Coupe" class at the '57 (Oakland) Roadster Show:
Ah, the good old days when you could find solid, rust free coupes that haven't been all beat up and hacked up. And affordable chrome plating. Andy became a great rod builder but that first 32 coupe was probably his easiest build back then. Beautiful car. Where is it now?
I'm not sure how close it was to "Washington Blue": The '57 Roadster Show program referred to it as "Baltic Blue" ... I'm guessing: The '58 magazine article referred to it as "Hawaiian Blue" ... I'm guessing this circa 1952 custom metallic color:
Unfortunately, Andy doesn't know what became of his Deuce 5wd ... only that he sold it to a guy that (later) moved to Hawaii.
As you might have noticed in post #1 & #3, Andy was a member of the PACERS - San Francisco car club:
What a very slick 5W!!!! Andy is a great guy, I really think that Roy Boy Jr. oughta do a cool dupe of this for his Pop’s, I’m sure that Andy drive the wheels off of it......
Although ROY BRIZIO STREET RODS has never built a "clone" of Andy's Deuce 5wd, they have built a couple of similarly styled coupes: David Farmer's Deuce 5wd: Roy Brizio's personal Deuce 5wd: In 2014, Roy drove his Deuce 5wd from SF to Baltimore (& back) to attend the "Rodder's Journal Revival" at Pimlico: image by @Tom davison
Thanks for this Todd. How many hotrods have a conspicuous spare tire? Looks like he planned to drive the hell out of it. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
So, What's the fruit jar master cylinder, on the firewall, for, One interior shot shows a through the floor brake pedal, so, I assume a hanging, hydraulic, clutch pedal, Any other shots of the interior,
