I was "the mechanic" and I was the the younger guy that had installed the parts, possibly years before. Laughing at the dumb stuff you did yourself is good medicine, it keeps you humble.

I have always told my son, experience is a learned thing. Get out there and screw it up, then find out how to fix it and get the job done. Failure is part of the learning curve. The more it cost, or the harder it is to fix, the better you will remember it. Some can learn from other's experience, but some just have to participate in the learning experience for themselves.
If you have never had someone point out what you did wrong, how would you know it wasn't right (outside of the fact it still didn't work)?

I was going to college in Oakland in the '60s. SF across the Bay & Berkley at the other end of College Ave from my school. There was no such thing a "free" love. Luckily there wasn't much going around that penicillin or Black Flag couldn't fix. Those gals don't look like that any more a lot of them didn't then. Not saying it wasn't fun. :D

So is the proper repair to weld it up and then turn it back down on the lathe? Or cut and splice a new section in? Should be good for another 60 or 70 years.

  16. So, after we have worked on my rear end, I guess it's your turn!
Should have left the header like it was, and just put a bend in the steering shaft to clear it.

Bum buffing is a time-honored tradition. Real hot rods, without hoods don't have this issue.

Reasonably priced once you find a clinic for the shots and one can of Black Flag will take care of a year's worth of crabs & Kooties. The California girls were there for sure but I don't think the Beach Boys ever made it to the home of the must beautiful blond girls. Texas! They can also shoot and fox their own flats.

So, the nabor 3 doors down ask me: "How do I find a good mechanic?"
So I tell him, "Ask around, word of mouth."
He said: How do I know he's good?"
I said: " Find out how big his boat is, and to which boat club he belongs."
