Projects American Motors Build for the Southeast Gassers

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HEMIBERT, Nov 29, 2017.

  1. After 2 years crew chiefing on the Cuda, wife decided it was time for her to have her
own gasser. SEG1.jpg SEG2.jpg SEG3.JPG The day after Thanksgiving we started with a running, driving 1960 Rambler
American wagon. So, we are off and running. Follow along and see how this one goes.

The car sat by the roadside in South Carolina selling peaches out of the back. The wagon
was rescued and brought to Tennessee, where we got it. She's had the car a few years and
said when she got it that it would make a good gasser. It will be a Chrysler (of course)
powered D/G car in the Southeast Gassers.

  6. Oh Man (Woman) I love it. Back when I built the AMX I started calling it the Rambler from Hell. That gave way to Almost Funny. Yours is for sure going to be one Hell of a Rambler.

Awesome! What a great choice for an unusual gasser! I'll be following the build.

AMC powered would be cool, but you probably have a store of Mopar engines. A stack injected, iron headed 290 or 304 AMC would allow you get that thing light . Plus they might give you a 1/2 lb. for being a vintage engine like the FE's and 409's.

  17. I'd love to, but they were painted over a really rough hood with a lot of surface rust. It makes the car though. I'll put a picture of the flame job on tonight or tomorrow. I was hoping someone from SC would remember the car.

This will be good. I dig the different cars. Had a buddy we "ratrodded" the exact same male/model car. Looking forward to watching you build!

Being one of the first uni-body cars, most of the frame was trash from rust. Lucky to find out the rear part had a good 2x3 sub frame installed. As you see we cut out everything from there forward. Haven't had much time to put on it lately, but have 2 weeks off for Christmas. Should get some good stuff done then.

No flames on a gasser. I don't know why but they were not popular on gassers in the mid 1960's.
