Sometimes it is more than just a hue. Pontiac was slated to end their TA production in 75 (like the Z28). Instead the skunk works at Pontiac, knowing the old man had a thing for Gary Players livery, painted up a black and gold TA in 76 and the rest is car and movie history.

This is a great post and thread! BUT Ryan (@Ryan)...were you baiting us? I do believe your lead photo is a French car (Not that there's anything wrong with that) I think it's the Renault powered Shooting Star (Etoile Filante). And given the 3rd place victory at Le Mans this weekend... (with a French built V8), it seems appropriate.

    Maybe not my favorites.
    But eye-catching, none-the-less.

Smokey was using that black and gold livery at least back as far as 1959. I've always liked it too. This was the 1962 Daytona winner:

  23. Not sure if it is much of a paint scheme, but it is American, dry lakes, iconic, and I like it. They put their name on about everything they ever built and sold. E8BA396D-3DB0-444F-9DC9-16700F723FC1.jpeg If you are fast maybe you don’t need flash. Just an afterthought.

    Maybe it’s the body.
But a simple pant scheme that hit the bullseye.[/QUOTE]
If raw aluminum counted as racing livery, this was a winner. This car was phenomenal before paint....

I’ve seen pics of it. The work looks killer.
I’ve seen this one in person.

  26. I knew there were a lot more than I posted. Nuts and dried fruits is big business, when my boy was little he probably funded at least one of their roadsters! The family has quite the "farm"
