American Graffiti is back If you missed It on the big screen, here's you chance to make it up. This week American Graffiti is back. This film is probably why I am obsessed with hot rods. Join us at The Tobie Cinema in Senatobia MS for a once in a lifetime viewing of George Lucas's master piece. Yes, I said it. There will be a 2:00 matinee on Saturday. Thinking about putting together a cruise-in before the show. The Tobie has a huge parking lot. If you guys are interested let me know.
When the movie came out I was already in to cars, I thought it was the best movie ever! Being kids we couldn’t resist doing burnouts in front of the theater when the move let out.
American Graffiti was released August 1, 1973, I was 24, two daughters, a mortgage and a 22 year bride. No extra money for movies and so I didn't see it until years later. I graduated in '57, went to work for uncle same and his flyboys in 62. I kinda lived that movie myself, the last night at the drive in, leaving long time school friends, some to never see again and loosing one in Nam when his fighter jet augured in. Watched again once bring back treasured memories that one never forgets.
Saw it once at a drive- in at Back to The 50's car show in MN. Was so cool to see all the hot rods in front of you and that movie on the big screen. Big Fan of the show.
Hey Don, remember at the drive-in, how we would all honk our horns and shine our lights on the screen to get them to start the film? Just think how much more effective it would be if you had 2 fog lights.
We had the chance to see AG at a "pop up" drive in a year ago. It was a first for me, because though I remember an abandoned drive in in our town, the other was a porn theater by the time I was around.
Yep, pretty cool to see it on the big screen. We have also done Thunder Road, Two Lane Blacktop and a few others at our local drive-in. A local car club typically reserves the drive-in after the normal season ends and we watch cool hot rod movies...that reminds me, Hot Rod from 79 was another.
my high school cinema club rented it and a popcorn machine. saw it in the school's auditorium after school. saw the creature from the black lagoon in 3D the same way. we'd watch marx brothers movies in club. everybody likes to point out the flaws in the merc and 32 today but it's what inspired me as a kid to like hot rods and customs
At the Evergreen Cemetery in Down Town Riverside, to raise money for the up keep, the cemetery shows pop up movies at Halloween and for it's car shows during the summer. They showed American Graffiti for the car show two years ago. It was fun to see the oldsters and the younger crowd who had never seen it before enjoying it.
Well, there IS a bit of salami (no, balonga) being spread as I read these posts from So MD all the way to Washington state ! LOL.
Too far for me to drive to see it, but, for some reason, last fall the "hippie" theater down the street decided to run it on the big screen, complete with movie previews & all. Its a whole different experience on the big screen, for sure
