  2. I remember working in Petaluma Ca just after my tour of duty of Viet Nam ending in 1969. I worked for a Goodyear store right up the street from where the filming was done on Petaluma Blvd. Those were the days. Cheap gas, hot cars.

Crazy. My moms hometown has sections that have not changed since I was a kid. It's cool and scary at the same time, when you come across places that time really did stop.

That was cool, I was 13 or 14 when it came out and I wondered if it was a true story because of the way it ended.

I guess I'm lucky. I see those filming locations every day. Drove down 'Paradise Road' this afternoon coming back from Pick-n-Pull and thought to myself right here is where the big race took place. Kinda sent a chill down my spine even 40 years later!

    Awesome, thanks for sharing!

40 years. That makes me feel old...
And to think that when the film was shot, 1962 had only been 11 years ago. A 55 chevy was only 18 years old.

  11. Thanks for the link! That was great. Certainly one of the defining moments in my youth was seeing this movie. I will always lust to run on "Paradise Rd." Makes me want to go faster each time I see it. Check out the history on "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" filming sites in Spain. Just as good. Thank God for history, the present sucks!

    Thanks for posting.

That's fascinating that a lot of the buildings are still recognizable. The small towns in our area have had most of their buildings either boarded up, converted to tattoo shops, or Tae Kwon Do studios or they've been torn down to make way for Dollar General stores.

The first shot of Paradise Road kind of looks like it's changed to "Paradise Estates". I'm really surprised that the field where the roll over scene was filmed still looks like it's farm land.

    I like that.

I wonder how many old curmudgeons roll their hot rods/street rods down Frates Road each year, just because...and I'm not saying that I wouldn't given the opportunity.

  28. There's one foreign car in the movie footage, the current comparison doesn't have any American cars in it, kinda sad.
