I was flat out blown away by our Wednesday stop at the Gilmore Museum in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I have no idea how I had never heard of this place, but it's worth the trip from pretty much anywhere. The place is filled with one of, if not the best car collections in the USA.

Check this out and while your at it add some pics of your own of any cool hood ornaments from wherever!

  10. Thanks for posting these, very cool. I had no idea there was so much diversity in hood ornaments...sky's the limit I guess.

This is my favorite. Who isn't amused by a monkey?

  14. Not sure my fifties GM piece rates after that!
Love the late 20's Paige piece- the tutenkhamun/ Eygyptian influence of the era revealed.

Thanks for all of the time & work you put in on that, Kirk. I really enjoyed it. I actually have an example of the very first one, but missing the lower jaw. Here's a clip from the original catalog where those were sold back in the late 20's, early 30's by the Franklin Die Cast Co. out of Chicago. Mr. Franklin was considered the father of die casting in the U.S. & went on to establish the Franklin Automobile Co.

  24. gee you normally are wasting our time and yours with stuff how did this happen that we could be so enthralled with your pictures somebody write this DATE down as its a exceptional pictorial essay from" KIRK"

now think about it some one had a car attached to almost all of these at least momentarily and now all that was saved was the ornament?

  25. That's awesome!

Thanks for taking the time,a lot of it to load that many photos!
I enjoyed every one.Looks like any kind of image was fair game.
I had a small collection of 9 at one time, than they got hard to come by for a working man.
I like the idea they were still making them in the 60's.
    Thanks again Roy
