Alan Green Chevrolet Canuck Malfunction Glendale Speed Center Grady Bryant Roger Caster Sump'n 'else #2 Doug's Headers Chevy II Much running as dragster
Loudbang, thanks for posting the Elliott Chevrolet that was owned by Bruce Gowland. Lots of memories of that car but no pictures. Bruce just passed away a couple of years ago.
Loudbang, the Chevy 2 was a strong runner. My friend ran against him in a final at St. Thomas Dragway one Sunday. Gowland could not get the car to fire while the B/Altered sat waiting at the line. Finally it caught they stage and left, at half track it literally caught on fire. Gowland bailed out after heavy braking. It was an exciting, for us, final. We were just kids at the time, my buddy drove the 56 Olds "push" car and I had the responsibility of pumping up fuel pressure on the starting line. My goodness for a couple of teenagers it was an incredible time. I have never forgotten the excitement of it all.
Both the Chevoom and the Soul Shaker are in southern Pennsylvania now... The Chevoom is currently being restored and should be done by early summer... It will also "cackle" when finished....
Very cool shot Loudbang. Is that Al Bergler (sp?) in the near lane. Thanks for all you do for this thread.
i believe landy was burned due to a trans fire in that car. chrysler pulled the plug on the funny cars after that. they went back to safer super stocks.
Somewhere, I saw some folks arguing about the term Semi Hemi - right there it is in black and white in 1966. Now, if we can document the pre - Rat term porqupine.
Many of these cars live on today and are in the hands of collectors who purchase them and restore them. Some of these cars are still in action and make special appearances at drag racing events all over the USA. Here is a link to one collector who makes exhibition runs and also races in nostalgic events. Jimbo http://timoszykfunnycars.com/index.html
This was a fiberglass body with a tube chassis. It raced in the Midwest UDRA injected funny car circuit in the mid sixties. It was Don Schumachers first funny and it had limited success. If I recall correctly John Buttera built the chassis while he was still in Wisconsin.
