The worst screwing I ever got in my life was when I traded with a "buddy" he provided the labor, I provided the goods. He got the goods, I got nothing. Don't do it. Another time I provided the labor for a bike build for a dentist friend. Turned out great! But he valued his time per hour much higher than I did mine, I was counting on even trade, he figured his work was worth about 10 times what mine was. For what it's worth, it turned out I was a better wrench that he was a dentist.

  2. Thanks for the advice and I think I'm going to pass on the trade for services deal with my friend.
I'm going to check out the frame tomorrow and see if I can get it out of the frosen ground. I didn't pay much attention to it because it was covered in snow and about 50 yards away, so I didn't think it belonged to the coupe, but from what I remeber it looked as thoght it might have some non-original wheels on it and I know it had an old steering wheel setup, but like I said it was covered in snow and I didn't really pay much attention.

Bring a bag of sidewalk salt with you, and dump it around the wheels as soon as you get there. If it's frozen in, the salt should melt you out pretty easy, and it would be a shame to wreck anything from pulling on it.

Ok I agree with what everyone else said about not trading. that is a killer deal already chopped with the wood replaced most of the work is already done. $500 bucks JEEZE some people have all the luck. Hey do you get to keep the trailer too or do you have to give it back??

  7. No the guy is selling it too, so he wants that back.

  8. Yeah, I looked the wood over and it doesn't look bad. It even still has all the window mechanicals in them.

  9. That's a great idea, I'll bring some with.

I saw a 32 chevy sedan body for sale nearby, not nearly as nice\cool as yours. Lotsa rot, wood was shot, no glass or doors and the guy wanted $3500.00 CDN for it!! (Must have been the crack he was smokin')
Take it and keep it! It'll only be worth more down the road.

Keep it. If you decide not to build it in a couple of years, then sell it.

If you get rid of it, you will regret it later. Especially when you see your buddy driving a car you wish you had kept. You probably won't get another "find" like that 32 (with title), so don't do something stupid. In the end, which would you rather have/ The 28, the 32 ? Why not BOTH. Then you are a winner all the way around.

    Sell it, it's not a Ford.:D

  17. I definantly will.

I went to look at the frame today and it doesn't have a rear-end in it and has a duel spring set-up in the front with all the steering and some old bias ply tires.

The thing is about 40yards away from any place I can load it up and I'm thinking I need to wait until spring to get it, when one of the tenents stops and asks what I'm doing and I tell him that I bought the coupe and frame and was trying to figure out how and when I was going to get it and he said he was there to park a trailer right next to it and was going to plow away the snow and would move it out to the driveway for me. Man, I need to buy a lottery ticket or two today.

I would be asking, what is the metal work on the '28 sedan worth? If the cost of the work on the sedan will be at least double what you have into the chevy it seems like a good deal to me.

I was sure that you were going to tell us that when you went to look at the chassis it had a NOS set of Halibrands, dirt trackers on the rear and ribbed dirt track tires on the front along with a new Schroeder (sp) cowl steering setup. You've GOT to ditch that rabbits foot, it's ruining you perspective on life. PM me for my address, i know how to fix this.  :D

  21. $500 legit is better than free and looking over your shoulder. FUNNY how the landlord couldn't reach the owner of the Chevy until 5 minutes after you get the car. Beware the BRO deals. Whatever you agree on (i'll say $2500), put the car aside at your house for him til he completes his end of the bargain. I don't care how good a friends you are. Businesss is business. If he intends on keeping his end of the deal.... A=he'll have no problem with the arrangement, and B=he'll shake a leg on fullfilling his obligation to you. PS- FORGET for a minute what you paid. What's it worth??????????? And can you find another that cheap when need be? NO

What's it worth? I paid $1800 for a '31 Chevy coupe this summer that's a little more complete(fenders, hood, ect) but needs all the wood. So I would say the $2000 range isn't out of line at all. Could be worth more but I sure wouldn't figure any less.

Trading stinks! It is a good idea until it comes time to actually get the work done. Been there, done that. Trading doesn't pay the bills, and when somebody else comes along with a paying job, your "agrrement" will be forgotten. I know of a guy who has traded a number cars and parts for his labour, but we are all still waiting. The worst of it was that I was the first to trade and introduced others to him, to help him out for work when he was tight for $. Never again! Keep it, pay him as the work progresses, and when the A is finished you have your next project ready for little $.

  26. That would be cool.

  27. So here are a few pics of the frame I got with the deal. Does it look like a '32 frame? What about the duel springs?

    Attached Files:

  28. I would skip the lottery ticket-you can't have much luck left.I say keep it!

  29. If that isn't the original frame, it's at least the original style frame. I'll give ya a quick $1000 for all of it and you can give it to your body guy.....I'll even come for it.

I think the parallel leaf springs were used on chevy cars up until IFS came around, Fords used the single "buggy spring".

    Good score btw!
