Clarence 'd the firewall, for the steering box..

 

I'm fortunate to have access to Norm's scrap aluminum pieces, to practice with. Tipping brought the panel back to flat, so stretching the flange, put the curve back in the panel. But the stretcher leaves those teeth marks, so it's not an option. Have to find another way.

 

Cut and shaped a quick test piece, then tipped and stretched the flange until it was to the dangle, we were looking for. I think Norm has a better solution, tho..










We just recieved the oxygen regulator back, for the oxy/acetylene torch. It had to be refurbished, when it started blowing out the bypass hole. Now I can get back to practicing fusing aluminum. Not so fun in the heat, I must say.

 

Oxy/Acetylene welded up the gas lid hole, this morning.


Then the chief supervisor said, I was making too much noise..


Norm's been working on the transmission hump. Tomorrow, I'll get back to working on his roadster.

Can't get there from here. The steam pressure is low again in the Mac and I hate to fire it up when it's over 100º.

Warped a few more things into arrangement..

 

Here's Monday's photos. We were able to pick up some more 3003 H14 .063, yesterday. Now we can start making the grille shell.

Filed the face flat.. or fwat, if you're English

 

The convertor cover piece is now cleco'ed to the firewall. The center hump, is now bolted to the floorboards.


Despite the heat, I put a little time in gas welding some more 3003 .063 aluminum scraps. This gas saver is a neat set up. Very convenient

 

I can take this thing apart, rather quickly.


Working on the 50Merc the next couple mornings. Grateful for understanding customers.. others, not so much

 

Filled in, some unwanted holes in the frame. Getting familiar with the TIG process, is easier when I just do, and stop overthunking it. Pretty, no. Grinder ready.. yep

 

More practice.




Antron, gives it another month, before I get a passing grade. I have some goatskin gloves on the way. The gardening variety, aren't helping the cause..

Slight oversight.
Need to Clarence the tunnel to make way for the seats. After a few moments of the visualization game, two holes an a couple slices, it'll do just that.

Put in some time Tigging 1/8th" plate. Feeding the filler rod comfortably and consistently, is where I need to focus.

 

I wouldn't of had to make a second cover, if I'd have put peak down the center. Good practice.

 

Fused this together, this morning. I'm satisfied, with it being my first actual, project. A little more practice, before I weld the keeper. I'm grateful dad taught me to weld, in the early 80's

Monday I'll finish the M/C cover and get ready to install some nutserts. Would've looked better with it coming up from the bottom and riveted. But then the floorboard has to be removed, to gain access to the master cylinder

 

Outer steering box cover. Sit's up on the firewall, since it has cowl steering.

 

Finished, just in time to figure out, it doesn't fit.
The next one.. will have wings!

Working out the details and making patterns to begin on the grille shell.
With the 55 Dodge Hemi being something worth looking at, I mentioned not even making a hood, ot sides. We'll make the shell with the provisions to do so, if we so choose to, in the future.
