Anyone got pics/info on this car? Suede blue '36 Ford 3 Window running wide whites. Just saw it in July issue of Rod & Custom.
Shifty looking bastard......... Some pics from the Grand National Roadster Show suede palace. Coupe was sporting its brand new TJ tuck n roll interior.
Does anyone know what he's running for springs, F&R, to get it to sit that low? That's the look I want for my '37 Coupe.
Hey guys, Thanks for posting the pics. My 36 had a rough life laying around at a guys home in Whittier California for decades. Parked in the garage ,then outside in the backyard, then back in the garage, then back outside, then finally back in the garage since 1962 ! It was discovered in 2005 at a yard sale and i still have the plates & "Pink Slip" from 62. The roof had a lot of rust due to years of soaked blankets laying on top of it. Fabian Valdez of Vintage Hammer english wheeled many pieces to repair all of the roof cancer as well a few area's near the trunk and firewall. I did all the final body work , paint, and final assembly including wiring, engine, trans, rear, etc. the engine is a 284 cubic inch 8BA dressed to look like an 59AB including crab distributor. Everything has been internally balanced, ported and polished. The crank has been stroked to 4 1/8" . The bore is 3 5/16 with forged pistons. Johnson adjustables, Isky 325 lift cam, high volume oil pump, center main support, headers, Mallory dual point,Edelbrock heads, Thickstun 2 pot high rise with a pair of 97's and scott tops. 2 inch straight pipes all the way out with "pee shooter" chrome tips. Original 50's cut outs with finned block off caps. Louvers by Eric Vaughan. Paint/color = secret . The trans is a 39 all rebuilt. The rear is a 36 with 3.54 gears. Wheels are 40 Ford that are powder coated. 41 Ford caps and beauty rings. Tires are Firestone 7.50x16's in the rear and 5.50x16's up front. A true magnum 4 inch dropped axle and a mono leaf with reversed eyes set the front end down. The rear cross member was straightened flat. This allowed me to still use the stock rear spring and still have a good ride. Juice brakes all the way around,39 pedals, unsplit wishbones. Navy blue & white TJ tuck&Roll. Chrome garnish moldings, deluxe wheel, the list goes on & on. At first EVERYONE & their brother wanted me to make a custom out of this and chop the roof. I said "Fuck no.....I've got an idea". And this is what i came up with. take care, Axle
Hey Axle, thanks heaps for your reply, and your pm. Thanks for the info, I agree 100% about leaving the roof as standard. With the wheel/tyre combo, and the stance/ride height, its just perfect. Can you tell me what the size of the white wall is on your back tyres? I can't tell if its 4 1/2 or 4 3/4 (or something else?). Anyway, nice job.
Beautiful car Alex! It almost looks like you have "air ride", it sits so low. Perfect stance and wheel-tire combo.
That Coupe's stance is fabulous, and really is, just a good ol' traditional Hot Rod. We should all aspire to have a rod that captures the "feel" like this one does. I have a '36 3W project and study Axle's Coupe every chance I get. As soon as he get those Deluxe trim pieces on it will be perfect ! As far as the photo goes..... would trust the dog, but I'd keep my eye on the guy. Looks like he's worried a whale is gonna drop a load on his head at any moment. Later this year I hope he can shoot straight, don't wat to get gored by a hog. Don't drop your rifle lookin' out for whales ! Johnnie.
I agree no chop a perfect bit of rake & a hot flatty..........thats the dogs bollox! If i had a 39 coupe i guess i'd do something simular ;-) hahaha Kev.
Thanks guys, Steve 38, I can't remember but 4 1/4 sounds right. I'll go out in the garage and measure them if you really want to know.
All I can say is Wow!! My heart skipped a beat... sets perfectly. i bet that ride is great while keeping the stock rear setup. And a hot flatty to boot!! My god its on top as one of my best 36's! great job Axle.
And that is why it is one of my favorite 3 windows... plus the black steelies and whitewalls, which of course I love on everything. I love them chopped just as much as the next guy, but if we ever stumble into another 3 window, the roof stays.
Axle's car sits JUST RIGHT!!!!! Does anyone have a pic showing a side profile of the car? And how about tire brand, tire size and wheel sizes? I want to make my 40 ford coupe sit the same way. After viewing Axle's info I am reminded of my dad always telling me " it's not rocket science to make the old fords sit low and still maintain a good ride." and Axle proves it.
That is just a cool looking '36. I'm going to steal some of your ideas and incorporate them into my build. Thanks.
