The folks at http://www.prewarcar.com have posted a report of the first drive of the restored 1905 Fiat Land Speed Car and it's 16.5 litre Isotta Farshini engine.

I was puzzled by the 8 cylinders (2x4) in the drawing, vs the 6 cylinder Isotta-Fraschini engine: the comments accompanying the PreWarCar link
http://www.prewarcar.com/magazine/p...and-speed-record-car-back-to-life-019039.html make for VERY interesting reading indeed. And quite entertaining, too!

I love the FED-like proportions, and the way the chain drive drives forwards to the rear wheels:

This too, is Isotta-Fraschini powered - and has a somewhat similar steering position.

    1913 Monarch with a 13.5 litre Curtiss.

I'm sure some of you are aware of his other project too. By all reports it should be finished this year some time. Personally I can't wait.

I have thought about doing this with BMW Boxer cylinder and head assemblies....but with quite a few more units than TWO!

Yes indeed, although a goodly number seem unaware of what it's supposed to be about and turn up in outfits more suited to a fancy dress theme party with no limits on the theme - stiletto heels, feather boas, pin striped gangster suits - maybe even Batman outfits ... you name it, you'll see it.
At lea$t, 'though, they come, and thu$ help to keep the $how going.

Back in the 70's running around the streets of LA was a '55 or '56 Chevy with an Allison versoin of the Rolls Royce Merlin. Nose bleeder with an Econline front axle and a two wheelbarrow recessed firewall. Sick fast and very cool lot track of it a very long time ago. Most of the old Allisons and Merlins have long since been used up in hydros and monster trucks, they used to be about the least expensive way to get 750 or 800 HP. Hydros are not so much fun with the woosh of a GE turbine Thunderboats no more.

    Hi All
I'm a new member who has just purchased a V12 Meteor engine from a Centurion tank with the intention of building a car around it.
I am looking for sources of information on the engine and ideas of what chassis, transmission, back axle, etc, etc to use.
I have my own ideas but am happy to listen to others.

This is not the first car I have built but it is the first on this scale. I intend it to be similar to the Napier Railton (but not bare aluminium).

It is going to be a fun project and intend to show it at local events and if I can afford the fuel and oil I might take it to Le Mans Classic.

It sounds odd, but perhaps the Cyclecars thread is worth a look. It's at the opposite end of the scale spectrum but a lot of the thinking is similar.

    Try these, too:

That auction, by the way, is taking place at the Simeone Museum in Philadelphia, which is down near the airport there.

The viewing for the cars and stuff being auctioned is today and tomorrow and I happened to shoot down there this morning to have a look at the stuff. There's a whole bunch of cool old cars and cool old car parts as well as loads of automobilia being auctioned. And, of course, that Hispano-Suiza aircraft engine complete with huge wooden propeller.

If you happen to be in the Philly area and have some time this weekend during the hours when the museum is open a trip down to see the stuff being auctioned would be a great way to spend some time.

You might even find some things worth coming back to the auction to buy.

    Miore info here:

Bonhams’ “Preserving The Automobile” Auction | Simeone Automotive Museum

Oh, I should mention that there is a $12 admission fee for the museum, but it worth that much just to see the cars that are normally there, so certainly it's worth the price with all the Bonhams auction cars and stuff added.

I believe most of them use clutch transmission and rear axle from some kind of truck. Chassis frame from a heavy limousine type luxury car.

20s and 30s luxury car chassis turn up from time to time. If the engine and body are shot, or they have been stripped for parts to restore another car, they have very little value except to someone like you.
