I got offered a job in Toronto and have to sell one of my toys before I relocate. My 63 Impala driver is up for grabs, I've had it for sale for months with no bites. My buddy Bruce has this shoebox '50 Ford and offered to trade for it straight up. The car is absolutely mint and solid, it needs nothing. I'd eliminate some of the rockabilly crap all over it, including stickers and clip on shit, but thats about it.

    Heres a shot:

The Good: Easier to sell, pretty desirable (especially in the states), no rust/rot.
The bad: Flathead v8 w/ 3 on the tree, rockabilly stuff needs removal.

    My Impala:

The Good: Mechanically sound, Bagged, metalflake, wheels, 327 v8 and fun to drive
The bad: Crusty floors & braces, needs a bodyjob and proper paint.

    What do you think?!?!?!?!?

If anyone is interested in the Shoebox and wants to make me an offer, I'll do the trade and sell it!

You said you had to turn loose of one of your toys, what are your other options! I would trade off the Impala for the Merc, and keep the Merc....Sell or trade off something else!

    I would.

A flathead v8 with a three on the tree is a good thing.

They only came with stick trannies, but it could have had a six banger in it, and those are lame.

That would be a GREAT shoebox without the ill fitting visor, that thing ruins it for me. And the extra doodad chrome pieces scattered about But what a great foundation for a cool car. The flames deserve to be flamed too but that's just me. The '50 is worth at least $2000 more that the chevy, just my subjective opinion, being a die hard Ford guy. Trade and sell something else....Good luck with your move.

thanks guys. Based on what I've said, what do you think the Shoebox is worth? I'm going to take it for a spin tomorrow night and take some more pics.

Coldwar is confused. That shoebox has a '49 Plymouth bumper, which is perfectly era-correct. And they aren't worth any more big $ than a nice stock Ford bumper.

    Im A Chevy guy,
and I like the 50 shoebox better, lose some of the trimmings and it would be nice ,
Lose the flame job and visor and it would be bitchin,
I can't beleive I used the bitchin word!

  23. If you were trying to sell it anyways I would do the trade...I traded for a shoebox for a truck that I was having a hard time selling....put the shoebox up for sale and sold if for more than I was asking for the truck and sold it the second day...it's been 4 or 5 months and I still get calls for the shoebox...guys are always looking for those...easier sell in my opinion...lose the visor though and sell it seperately along with all of the bolt on stuff

I already told him, he doesn't care. He's got a fleet of old cars and just aquired a club coupe, which is the model he wanted to begin with.

What baffles me, is why he wants to trade a perfect, solid car for a car that needs work. I know Impala hardtops are desireable, but THAT desirable?

Take the trade before he sobers up.

  28. The shoebox would probably be easier to sell, there are lots out there but they're pretty popular, go for it.

    I wouldn't trade.
Hardtop impala vs cheesy shoebox sedan? its in good shape and a lot of work done to it, probably lots of money invested too, bu the impala is so much cooler.

I dig the Impala... but I also have a 50 Ford and probably wouldn't trade for it. In my opinion the Ford would sell for more but the Chevy would be easier to sell... if that makes sense.
