Some of you may recall my “garage find” ‘33 Ford 3 window coupe, which I bought 4 years ago. Until recently, I’ve been kept pretty busy with the home construction business. My retirement now affords me time for the car projects. After driving the car around for a while, I decided that the stock steering box needed an update. Neal Jennings’ (Neal’s Hot Rod Parts) makes a beautiful, superb quality, exact replacement box for ‘32/4 Fords. As part of the swap, I wanted to install my old 5 hole Metalflake steering wheel. Since I’m using the stock steering column mast jacket, the transition from the column to the steering wheel needed some sort of filler. I used a Speedway steering wheel hub and added a fabricated shroud to fill the space between the top of the column and the steering wheel. I'm curious as to how others have addressed this issue.
Looks perfect! Mine is a chrome cover that was part of some steering wheel kit from back in the day. Same principle just a different shape. The bell had to be trimmed slightly to match up.
I just used random blobs of stainless and turned them to shape. The guts are different on mine but the idea is the same.
I have the remains of a few spun hoppers from injection mold equipment . I measure and cut them on the lathe to the correct length . The ends are flat and can be drilled to any pattern desired . They only issue using one of these is it has rings in the surface from being spun that requires filler to complete .The examples posted look cool as hell to me and a lot less work .
