I am already looking forward to it too. I spent half the day at my desk today and had to get out for a drive to town. I used the excuse of needing a cup of coffee but we all know I coulda made one at home.

Ive got one, you can have it,if you wanna come and pick it up,
Now that would be a road trip for the acme van.
Some of those desserted places would be great place to have a hotrod party,

The best thing about a road trip is you figure out what you really need in life,
Thanks again for showin us the wonderful sites and giving dreams for us.

It's the thought that counts, but before I get spanked for a misquote, here is a much earlier reference to the same thought, which could be recited like a cool drink of water at any of John's wayside stops

    Ithaka

    http://www.cavafy.com/poems/content.asp?cat=1&id=74

As you set out for Ithaka
hope the voyage is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery.
    Laistrygonians and Cyclops,
angry Poseidon—don’t be afraid of them:
you’ll never find things like that on your way
as long as you keep your thoughts raised high,
as long as a rare excitement
stirs your spirit and your body.
    Laistrygonians and Cyclops,
    wild Poseidon—you won’t encounter them
unless you bring them along inside your soul,
unless your soul sets them up in front of you.

Hope the voyage is a long one.
May there be many a summer morning when,
    with what pleasure, what joy,
    you come into harbors seen for the first time;
may you stop at Phoenician trading stations
    to buy fine things,
mother of pearl and coral, amber and ebony,
    sensual perfume of every kind—
    as many sensual perfumes as you can;
and may you visit many Egyptian cities
to gather stores of knowledge from their scholars.

Keep Ithaka always in your mind.
Arriving there is what you are destined for.
But do not hurry the journey at all.
Better if it lasts for years,
so you are old by the time you reach the island,
wealthy with all you have gained on the way,
not expecting Ithaka to make you rich.

Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey.
Without her you would not have set out.
She has nothing left to give you now.

And if you find her poor, Ithaka won’t have fooled you.
Wise as you will have become, so full of experience,
you will have understood by then what these Ithakas mean.

Isn't this the store you see in NM as the highway turns west toward Alpine, AZ and the forests of the Mogollon Ridge?

It could be; it's all a bit blurry after two weeks and all those miles.

This is your best road trip yet. When I have the extra time I like to take the back roads. Many times, I have done a u-turn to go back and take a photo of a great rustic site. I'll probably never move from So Cal, but when I see empty large buildings like old department stores, school houses etc, I can imagine being able to park all my cars and junk out of the rain. Thanks for posting all the great photos on the HAMB and not photo sharing sites. My work blocks those sites so I can't see many photos when browsing at lunch time. I look forward to your next trip.

p.s. I saw one of your Zephyr T-shirts early in this thread, are you back to printing those again?

Thanks John for taking us on another incredible ride. I just finished a 5600 mile jaunt from Calgary to San Diego and back via AZ, NV, UT, ID, WY and MT. Nothing better than the open road. Your stories and pics have always inspired me.

Here are a couple of my favorites. I just got back, so I will start a thread later this week and post the link here. When I travel, I live in my trailer and park out in the boonies. 6 weeks, no campgrounds. My access to internet is very sporadic on the road.
