Can anyone help me out with a real problem here. I'm looking for a place that will acid dip my 50 Merc around the Ohio, ky, wv area. Seems to be plenty of places out west that'll do it but not many in the east. Anyone?

Pennsylvania Metal Stripping in Monaca PA. Doesn't use acid but some kind of alkaline liquid that doesn't attack the metal just the rust and paint. I have taken many items there and have been nothing but pleased with all of them.Alittle slow getting things done, but first class work. If you can't find the number I'll look it up for you. I'ts near Pittsburgh PA.

I just got a quote of 450 for my 56 Cab. Seems pretty reasonable. What kind of time frame am I looking at......

I think the time frame usually depends on how busy they are and if you can have a set appointment. The last time I had anything done I think it took one day to strip the paint and one for the rust as it was done in different tanks. It may not have taken that long though as the hood didn't have much rust on it.

Doing a bit of prep work before you take it helps too. Take off everything that you don't plan on having stripped and pressure wash it or at least take it by the car wash and get the grease and dirt off so they don't have to deal with that. The more ready it is to going in the tank the faster it gets done.
When I get my 48 cab to that point I plan on taking it to Portland, Or on Monday and picking it up on Friday. At least that is what my work schedule allows right now.

1LowSled, are you talking about a process for paint/rust removal or one to reduce the weight of the body for competition purposes? The latter purpose is how I've heard the term used .... Would probably make a difference.

Just curious, why acid dip? Done lots of Cudas, Camaros, even Cobalts for drag racing. But why acid dip a Merc.? I just had a Cobalt done, it took off 55 lbs. from the shell alone.

I think there's a Redi Strip here in Columbus, out by the airport. I'll try to get info, but you can prob Google it.
I'd do it now, but gotta leave for work! Got my HAMB fix!

Redi Strip in INDY. Redi Strip used to be a chain/franchise but they are now independently owned. I have used the one in INDY and well pleased with the results.
