???? About Frame Repair

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by TooMany2count, Sep 27, 2010.

  1. Gotta repair a truck frame and want to be sure it's done correctly so it's safe.
Do I just make a straight cut, weld it , fish plate it(both sides??) and or box it & weld it up.
Do I cut the frame at an angle & which way \ or / , weld it, fish plate it(both sides???) and or box it, then weld it up.
Or should I cut the frame like this __]‾‾‾ , weld it, fish plate it(both sides) and or box it & weld it up

Or is there a better way to do it????...joe

All of those methods will work just fine, as long as the proper materials are used, and the welds are done by an experienced, well qualified welder.

Just remember: the whole idea of the fish plate (we used elongated diamond shapes in a shop I worked in) is to get as much horizontal weld as possible on the joint. The vertical seam is the weakest part of the joint.
