I live those old cars. One of the things that always makes me wonder what they were thinking is the gas tank. Leave in front of the windshield or put it by the back bumper? What could go wrong? I wonder what the NHRA tech inspectors would think about a gas tank next to the battery. Anybody got any jumper cables?
How did we all live through the fifties?

If this winter is a portend of the future, it won't be if you move out here either! Holy crap! I have 10" of snow in my front yard right now! Worst winter since 2009, where the hell is that global warming we were promised?

Haha it's my buddies RPU it's a side shift trans with two shift levers. More or less you bump one into neutral and the other out of neutral.

Herm Rost's son now owns the RPU pictured at the beginning of the thread and it still looks the same.

Relax. He's got the first aid kit conveniently located right in front of the fuel tank to help deal with any minor mishaps.

I guess being from Indiana those Studebaker wheel covers were easy to come by. This is a very interesting car. I love the exhaust system.

How exciting! I have been in touch with the son aka the owner. Were to set up a photo shoot sometime. Its currently 23 degrees with a lot of ice and the low tonight is -11. Herman(the owner) has been telling me stories of when George Barris came to stay at their house when he was a kid during the era of indoor car shows here in Fort Wayne. Im pretty excited about it.

It's amazing to me that so many people survived driving those rides with gas tanks located where they were. Must not have been too many rearenders or broad side collisions.

Did you design that windshield? It's bitchin', and I'm not from California. It looks like Henry offered it as an option.

@Gary Addcox I do believe my friend who owns the RPU did in fact design and build the windshield as well
