Quaker state is a parafine based oil. It's ok if you change it after a race ,but horrible if you leave it in a eng.

Latest news from machine shop. Not all bad. The deck surface and valve area are free from cracks. Pass side water pump area has several cracks. 4'' mercury crank is good. On to see if some one can weld the block.

In the 50s as a teen I had the flu for about 10 days and did not get to drain the water in a olds block. Left side cracked out. Went to the Olds dealer and one of his mechs stick welded the block back together. Put some stop leak in, and had no problems. What's the chances today?

Every once in a while a blind squirrel finds a nut. I found a 59a 3 3/8x 4 with a cam and no cracks that I can see yet. That's tomorrows job. Picked it up today and it looks nice.
The 8cm block is welded up, and looks very nice.

Have a bunch to do this week with the wife, and on Fri it's our 35th Anniversary

I didn't know you had an 'A-V8' a-buildin'! Great work so far, nice installation on the rear spring and hangers.
Rear kickup is just right, everything placed nicely.
One of the guys mentioned a center crossmember for A-V8s; I believe the mfr. is the same that made your spring hangers? Center crossmember is truly the backbone of the car...especially in an 'A' frame that is unboxed.

I'm presently arranging my shop after a long winter, and back & knee problems.
My Model A frame will be similar to yours, (very similar) frame jig is ready again. My '27 'T' Touring will be going on the 'A' chassis now.
Breaking news: My .040" over flattie with factory relief is actually a '48 Merc!
My bud Larry pulled it out of a '48 Merc, it had been overhauled a few years back, then the new owner had Larry plant a SBC in it...I got the lo-mile flattie.
Everybody's flathead in the day was a " '48 Merc!" Just ask 'em... like all the SBCs were 'Vettes!

Be sure when welding up the pie cuts on front wishbones the axle caster is 6-7 degrees positive.
Do you have a good side view of the wishbone connection at the frame rail?

Thanks Mike. I know about the cross member, it is the back bone. No good pics of the side view, but it does have a couple of '' of up sweep. When the bones are in place I have the 7/8 degrees.

I have ended up with a couple of flatheads. one is a 59 a that is 3 3/8 x 4 weber cam and is ported and relieved. Will end up in the A frame.

The other is a 49 Merc fresh ground 4'' crank, new valves and 3 5/16 bore. That is going to sit in the corner for a while.
I have been sick with the flu for the past 2 weeks. Will be another week or so before I am back to strength.
    Hope your health returns

Glad your feeling better. Hope the wife is doing good as well. Sounds like your coming along pretty good. I'm still waiting on my frame to be delivered. No biggie I have lots to do until then. I really need to lose 20 but I believe I'll just keep it if that's how it comes off.

So your transmission mount is in? You will bolt it up then that's how you will know where to weld your engine mounts?

Today I'll be working on shortning the emg brake cable. The cable is 39 ford and it needs to be modified so I can install the rear brake shoes. Also hope to cut the ft cross member so the crank pulley will fit.
Re working the driveway so my friend with his torches can't get in to heat the steering arms. With all the rain we have ,it might be another 10 days before the pour.

Christmas in June. While cleaning the shop, I actually found the lost Main Cap. It was in a area not used for shop work. I cannot imagine how it got there . Thankful it's found . Now to find a 8BA crank for it. I have .040 pistons.

Got a sudden splurge of money ,bought a 3 flu rad and having the wheels and grill 28 shell powder coated.
I guess I need to clean the shop more often. Still missing a set of shorty wire looms.
    Back to the build

Thanks Owen. Got the rad today and it's nice. No holes drilled. I like that. Can't wait to get the shell back. Have to paint the rad semi gloss black.

Todays work, and back in the house for the rest of the w/e. The mounting tabs at the bottom are not quite wide enough, will have to weld on about 1 '' .. This is the first work I have been able to do in a couple of weeks. 20180623_103342_resized.jpg

Lo, I think I got it from Speedway.
This is todays 30 min work span. I would like to get 2 hrs a day on the project, but that just won't work. I have to do everything in 30 min increments.
Set the eng on the mounts. I have a cowl coming thru Fastenal, when that gets here will weld the mounts in. 20180707_152047_resized.jpg
