today was a gold star day.,tires installed on wheels, came home and put them on the jeep. Had lunch with wife determined to do something right in the shop.
Installed clean out plugs and staked them in the merc crank, cleaned some 39 trans parts, painted the wood for the subrails, second coat, laid the crank ,torqued after cking clearance, finally to the big job.

That darn spring.Got it connected ,started looking for leaves and think I have it good enough. Tomorrow long bolt, clamp and put it together. This is what it looks like. Hope it's enough. 20190111_161004_resized.jpg

That's quiet an achievement for a week in the situation you're in, let alone what you managed to achieve in just one day.

Well done, you're an inspiration to s all

Thank you Stove Bolt, and all.

I am not as prolific as Aaron D ,who I admire very much. There are others that inspire me and help along.

This is a project I have to do.

I try not to work on the w/e so I can spend quality time with my wife. Tomorrow I am going to have a bearing pressed off of a shaft and another pressed on. Will put the spring together. That's about 1hr for me.

    Thanks,

    jim

Are you attempting to install the spring together or leaf by leaf?

Looking better with every post Jim. I admire your persistence and your devotion to your bedridden wife.
Nobody can accuse you of being a "slacker" on anything in your life.
How many leaves you got in that spring?

    Thanks Dave,
    I am using 4 , 2 new and 2 used.

Joy is not bed ridden, she likes to wander around too much. That's one of the reasons I have to keep an eye on her.
Big day today, friend came over to look at the car and helped me move the chassis inside. Bolted the ft spring back on and checked end play on the crank. ALL GOOD

    Thanks,
    jim.

My mistake Jim, sorry. I expect the wandering urge can be something requiring a close watch.

Jim, it’s coming along good. A friend came over this afternoon and we got all of the original wood out. Hope to get it blasted and some epoxy primer on it soon. Planning on starting a thread.

    Thanks Cliff,
Still have my doubts about it all,but doing eng and trans work is good for me as that's what I know.

Joy has been like a 5 yo for the past 2 days. All is well.

Jim, I'm one of those "younger" guys that can't keep up with you. It's inspiring for sure. Keep being a good example for us with your car and your wife. Appreciate you sharing all these experiences with us.

Hit a stumbling block on trans, so worked on eng today. All rings file fit, 2 pistons installed ,and torqued. Turns as smooth as silk.
    First f/h since 1955.

Put 2 more pistons in the hole and checked side play. With 4 pistons rings and rods torqued it still turns smooth.

Worked on the trans also. Have the out put shaft, cluster gear installed.
Tearing it down was not a problem ,going back together was. Thanks to Cliff and me re reading the book .Now for the synchro and input shaft.

All body panels except the cowl are now in epoxy primer.

Hi Jim looking good my friend. Is there any parts I should have ready before I tear my transmission down and what book are you using?

The Van Pelt book is a great book.
Never into a early ford trans. His book took me thru it with ease.
Going back together has been another item though.
He has all the parts. you will need a gasket set at the least. I ordered new synchros , bearings as well as washers. Call and talk to Mac

Thanks to Cliff Ramsdell and his son for providing a video on the main shaft of the 39 trans,90% complete.

Have all the pistons in the 8cm block and alkl clearances are good. Turns real easy. Will get a torque number on Monday.

    Things are moving along good.

    Thanks all for the support.
