I know that a concours show isn't usually the first place a HAMB member would probably go, but I have relatives that live on the island and got invited. It turns out it was well worth the trip, among all of the really nice old cars that absolutely were not HAMB friendly was an American hot rod display from the east & west coast. I never thought I'd see a couple of these on this end of the country.
Thanks for posting the photos. Several of those West Coast cars were restored here on the East Coast. Bob
After all these years I don't think anyone else has put a big trunk lid on a '32 like the McGee car. Bob
I've been to quite a few of them and was also there today. I really, really enjoy this show but it's getting pricey. If they plan to match Pebble Beach prices in the near future, that will leave a lot of very enthusiastic spectators out in the cold. From vintage Indy cars, sprint cars, Kurtis' n Allards, hot rods, customs, land speed cars, motorcycles, etc. there is a lot of HAMB there to see. And the classics and fancy-pants sports cars are so beautifully finished - amazing plating and paint - it's just a wonder to see that kind of car building up close. The wild and wacky world of Forgotten Fiberglass was there in a big way this year. The show changes every year, and the cars are there by invitation only. They do a really great job selecting them. Gary.
This was my 18th year going as a class host.. My pictures are posted here: http://www.jalopyweb.com/ai/ai2015/
THANK YOU cadman89! What can you tell us about the yellow single seater? Looks like a nice '30's Dirt Car. Bob
I see that a few of the Peterson Museum (Los Angeles) cars were displayed there. Perhaps they loaned 'em out to Bill Warner while the Pete is undergoing remodeling or something.
I did some wiring work on my friends 1928 Aubaru Boattail Speedster that was there. It was the red and black one with the chromed Dayton wires in the pics.I heard he recieved second place in class. Not bad i guess looking at the other cars. The paint and interior were done by local shops that are friends of mine. He told me there were gonna be Hot Rods there but i did not realize which cars till i saw your pics. I wish i would have went now i guess i could have slept in the trailer.
There is nothing like going to a classic car show. The cars are presented so one can look them over up close which gives you a great perspective on the design and details that went into building each piece. Style and craftsmanship at its best with every component.
It was the first time I have been to a concours, it was really great to be able to see such a diverse collection of cars from all over the world . There is some great detail and craftsmanship everywhere you look...there was a maroon Cord there that I stared at for quite a while. The best part to me was taking my 10 year old son and hanging out with him and watching him freak out every time he saw something else he thought was cool. And yes 40Standard Wayne Carini was there
Yes! I'll check my Fox INDY 500 book, I've never seen that one before. Always enjoy seeing another Pre 1942 INDY car surface. Bob
I will go next year! Been wanting to go for a while but work keeps getting in the way. Love the photos.
