The dust is finally settling. If you were there, you know what I'm talking about... and if you weren't there, you have no doubt already heard-and/or-read about what a stellar event this year's HAMB Drag Nationals was. We YAY-HOOs knew this would be a big year for The Cup. This is the 5th year that we have awarded The YAY-HOO Cup to the quickest car driven to the event, but beyond that was the tangible tension created by the fact that our two previous champs... legends with two wins each under their respective belts... were both out of the running this year. Jeff 'FLAMEDABONE' Yocum was arriving in a rental ride, and Jason 'DASCHAEFER' Schaefer's Chicken Coupe had bottom end issues. Thus, the field on race day was truly wide open. Who was gonna be winner number five and Champ number three? The folks that decided to occupy the aforementioned wide open field were as follows, and they all rule. Thanks for being Cup Contenders! 'ORGANGRINDER' Reggie Robin 'RAVEN' Harvey Mike 'RUSSCO' Russell Jason 'JHO' Holland Cheryl 'PRINCESS CHERYL' Kaiser Bob 'BOBK' Klessig Aaron 'PRIMER31' Leeper Tom 'TOMT' Trovato Nick 'MALCOLM' Hoesing Mike 'BULLETPROOF1' Cox When all was said and done, however, the 2013 YAY-HOO Cup Champion was Mike Cox in his killer big block Henry J. Mike literally finished building this beast, dropped it off the jack, hopped in, and drove it from the south side of Tulsa to the event. The trip to the drags was the shake-down run... in a big way... and we dig that. Mike's winning pass was an impressive 10.95 @ 119... awesome. I'll let Mike fill you guys in on the details of the car, the build, and the drive from Tulsa... and I know he hinted that a full build thread might be in the works. In the meantime, the YAY-HOOs wanna say a big 'CONGRATS!' to Mike on his win!! He rules.
OUTSTANDING Yay-Hoo Cup this year. Lots of fast cars beating the hell out of each other for the title. How many times did the two A sedans race each other, like four or five? I didn't see either one back down an inch. How bout the dude with the FE powered A coupe running 12s all day long? Everybody was fast as hell. In the end, Mikes Henry J whupped em all and got into the ten club with out a power adder of any kind. The J looked a little rough on the outside, but was actually a very well built and exicuted hot rod underneath. Nicely built, cool, fast hot rod and a good guy to boot. Congratulations on a hell of a run. See you in a year. -Abone.
It just doesn't get any cooler than an "Ol Hank doin it that a way". Just a super bad ass race machine. I have been more interested in these little darlins since my K.C g.f. Tammy Saum bought here orig H.J. and has it on the road drivin it in uber cool patina. Also a treat to see two Omaha dudes Jason Holland in the 390 f.e. powered A coupe, and Nick Hoesing's 347 s.b.f. stroker being right in there for the cup. Salute to all you awesome racers. I have not been able to attend this event for the last two years but follow it with gusto thru the great posts on the forum. Rock on kids ~sololobo~
cograts mike killer car! Im already buying parts and Im going to rework the whole clutch system so I can hit second gear hard. cant wait for next year
as it turns out the throttle linkage wasn't opening the rear barrels,...after getting them to open halfway it knocked 1/2 second off and went 7 mph faster tonight,,, still have to redo the linkage to get full throttle.
Absolutely love it! Yay-Hoo's got it right... and you earned what I consider the ultimate Hot Rod achievement. Congrats Mike... I look for the day when I can be in contention for that award!
